Book Description

In "The Big Fashionista: No More Guessing What To Wear", Mary Schneider, a professional image consultant shares with readers some basic yet essential secrets to looking great at any size, and getting ready for that special date or occasion. Don’t hide in oversized clothes that make you look as if you’re tenting, and don’t be tricked into wearing too-small things that resemble an over-stuffed sausage. Great fit, flattering cut and beautiful color can be yours, no matter what your size.

"That date, the one you’ve been looking forward to since he asked for your number, the date, is in less than a week. You’ve tried the Cabbage Soup diet and now you feel like a round-cheeked Cabbage Patch doll, not the slim, sexy goddess you were hoping for. South Beach left you high and dry. Atkin’s was a cholesterol-filled disaster, and all Weight Watchers watched were the same pounds you trimmed off bouncing right back on the rebound.

The large-bottom line? You’ve tried to lose those stubborn ten pounds, but like a bad penny, they keep turning up, spoiling your confidence, stealing your sense of being a sexy, modern woman and leaving you wishing you’d never heard the word date, let alone given that special someone your number!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Big Girls Who Love Fashion April 17, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Finally a book that realizes that women over size 6 love fashion too. It has some fantastic tips and is well worth the read. Now if more fashion companies will cater to women of real size. The average American woman is a size 12-14. I'm a Fashionista and I'm a size 32 or Roaman's 3x. I'm also a former Super-Size Model.

Direct and applicable! Great tips for flattering any stye. Tips I'll be using.

Also uplifting to read. Not one of those books to make you ashamed of size or shape. I love the voice too. Adorable Apple, Pretty Pear, etc.

2.0 out of 5 stars A bit outdated for the fashion times... March 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I wanted to like this book... And the things I liked were: some good clothes recommendations for body types and the fact that she observes tall and petite within the body type. I was not impressed with the fact that if you are really reading fat-fashion blogs, ezines for the fatshionista, and numerous websites with fashion for the plus sized woman you would know that there are a lot of fashion ideas that break the older traditions listed here. An example is wearing knit clothing - if you read some other fashion kindle books or browse the Ezine web you will learn that there are not only excellent knit fashions for the larger woman, but many of them make their own and give you excellent details to learn to do it yourself if you want to (or you can buy). Also, the make-up section was okay. If you check out the latest make-up blogs you will learn great products (from drug store to high end) and how to apply them for all ages and face shapes. There is a lot of excellent ideas out there that are wonderful and for every woman. The other thing that bugged me was that the author based this book on if you want to go out for a date and lose 10 lbs but don't have time then you can dress better to cover your fat. I would have preferred the focus be on how you are fabulous, just as you are, and these are the ways to express yourself!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good fashion sense March 7, 2013

I thought this was a really good book. Easy to read and easy to understand her ideas. Mary dresses by shapes and also tells you what those shapes are. She touches on seasons, for wearing the best colors, as well as different fabrics will wear better on certain body types. There is a chapter on accessories which I thought was helpful and also make-up. I don't think there is much out there for the over 40 woman to help us how to dress. I love all the magazines, but they are for the 20 & 30 something age. This book doesn't feel like it's for just the younger generation and it doesn't feel like it's for the older generation. It is a wonderful book on how to dress a larger frame body.
