Book Description

September 1, 2010 4 - 8 years

"Forgotten God for kids".  A timeless parable for children from best-selling author Francis Chan.

The villagers loved the big, red tractor. It helped them grow enough food to get them through the year. But it was hard to use, and it didn’t work very well. Even with everyone helping to push and pull the tractor, they couldn’t get much done. Everyone believed that was just how things were. That is, until Farmer Dave discovered a long-lost book in a dusty attic. Could it really change everything? Farmer Dave thinks so. But the other villagers aren’t so sure.

The Big Red Tractor and His Little Village is a contemporary parable sharing a timeless truth: God has a special purpose for you and you can fulfill it through the help of his Spirit. It’s a powerful lesson perfectly told for little hearts.

I've quickly found myself a fan of Francis Chan. Though certainly, Pastor Chan would be quick to defer the glory to Christ rather than on himself, I must say that I have enjoyed the way in which he has been able to speak to my heart and teach me through his writing. Now, Francis has taken his signature messages to whole new demographic.

The Big Red Tractor and the Little Village is a story we first encounter as a quaint little parable in Forgotten God. But now, through the wonderful illustration of Matt Daniels, the Big Red Tractor springs to life in a way that can help kids understand the power of the Holy Spirit.

The story is simple. The villagers love the Big Red Tractor. I mean, after all, it plows the fields that grow their food. Every year they push and pull the Big Red Tractor through the fields and just barely get enough acreage plowed to feed their tiny village. Then Farmer Dave finds the Instruction Manual and learns that the Big Red Tractor can run on its own. But the other villagers think Farmer Dave's a bit crazy. The Big Red Tractor and the Little Village is a contemporary parable meant to engage the hearts of all - but especially told here for children. It's perfect for explaining to your preschooler to grade schooler just what the Holy Spirit is all about.

5.0 out of 5 stars Written and illustrated to appeal to children ages 4-8 November 20, 2010
Format:Hardcover
"The Big Red Tractor and The Little Village" is a children's version of "Forgotten God" (by the same author), a 'modern day parable using an uncooperative tractor as a parallel for profound truth.' Written and illustrated to appeal to children ages 4-8, "The Big Red Tractor and the Little Village" teaches one unforgettable idea to kids about God: God made us to be givers, and with the help of God and God's instruction manual, (the Bible), all of us can be like the big red tractor. We can indeed achieve our true potential with God's help! This simple, uplifting children's tale can be put to excellent use by religious teachers, parents, and anyone who is interested in doing good and teaching that to children.

We purchased all three of Francis Chan's children's books and are very pleased with them! The stories are wonderful for children to relate to, and yet are still Biblically based with wonderful morals. Highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book but not exciting
I liked the Christian theme of this book, but overall it's not very exciting. My 3-year old likes it, but it's maybe a little young for him.
