Book Description

Two nights after her eighteenth birthday, Lily is attacked while out jogging but is saved by Tharin Lunar, a Sidhe prince. When she discovers her attacker is her own brother, Lucas, who disappeared four years ago, Lily refuses to believe he would truly hurt her and becomes determined to find Lucas and bring him home. She finds Lucas's disappearance is somehow tied to Tharin; so when he informs her that she is his betrothed and must return with him to Velesi, fulfill a treaty between their families and unite the two strongest clans through their marriage, Lily agrees. However, she is not going to Velesi for a wedding, but to bring home her only family, Lucas.

On their journey to the borders of Velesi, the realm of the Thirteen Clans, they are pursued by a Sidhe assassin group call the Ange, meet with an ogre crime lord that ends badly, deal with a sleazy troll motel manager, and when they discover there is a bounty on their heads, they must keep one step ahead of every assassin, bounty hunter and low-life criminal from Velesi.

Protecting Lily has become the biggest challenge of Tharin's life. Lucky for him he has help in the form of his twin brother, Tolan, Lily's best friend Julia and his three bodyguard cousins – Alorn, Phoris and Mellis.

5.0 out of 5 stars what a great new ya book! February 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I loved this book it's the first in a series about Lily Michaels whose a princess elf and doesn't know it yet. She was raised by her brother Lucas until he disappears on his 18th birthday. When Lily turns 18 she spots her brother trying to kill her, along comes Tharin and Tolan and their friends and relatives to help rescue the princess. They find themselves collecting Lily's friend Julia whose been beaten by her family. They also find evil elves and other beings trying to kill the Prince Tharin and Princess Lily. They travel through California, Nevada into Canada and to Velesi to get the Princess Lily back to Velesi for a arranged wedding. During all this a binding takes place binding Tharin to Lily. Lily finds out Tharin has a girlfriend in Velesi and just wants to fulfill this marriage and find Lucas and go home. What Lily doesn't know is that Tharin is binded to Lily, his relationship with his girlfriend is over and he only loves Lily. Upon entering Velesi someone kidnaps Lily and Julia, Tharin and Tolan are desperately trying to find her. This book was great full of action, adventure, romance times two between Julia and Tolan and Lily and Tharin!

4.0 out of 5 stars very entertaining YA novel February 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
The Binding (book one) is L. Filloon's first novel and I found it to be very entertaining. I liked the storyline of Elves instead of Faeries, even though when I first read the word Sidhe, I automatically thought of Fae. (They are all from the same type of world I believe) :)

Lily is an interesting character, her parents are dead and the only real family she has left, her brother, disappeared several years earlier. She was finally establishing some type of home with her foster mom when out of nowhere someone tries to kill her while she was jogging. If it wasn't for the two handsome guys in beanies she probably would have been dead.

The strange thing is, is she was pretty sure it was her brother Lucas who tried to kill her. Then these two mysterious guys tell her she is a princess of the Willow Clan. Betrothed to one of the handsome guys Tharin and he has come to take her home to Velesi. Now some might like being told they are a princess but not Lily.

Lily is a strong character, she is sometimes brave, sometimes afraid, but she holds herself together fairly well. I am glad that she is strong because I hate weak female characters.

Tharin, is strong and a bit prideful. He is the prince of the Oak Clan destined to be King one day and sometimes it makes him a little arrogant. He is a very serious character he takes the fact that one day he will be King of the Oak Clan very seriously. Sometimes it makes him come across a little harsh when it comes to Lily, but that is not the only reason. Tharin doesn't want to fall for Lily, he is just doing his duty and fulfilling the promise he made to his father. Deep down though he is very kind and loving, and a very likable character.

Seriously...this book is magnificent. And Tharin....I swoon...even for Tolan. Filloon writes some dreamy guys here. Not just in their looks but the depths of their character...You love them all. Julia and Lily also make great female characters, and the intensity of their friendship and background, makes you holler for them even harder....Bring on the next two books PLEASE. Ready and waiting for more awesomeness.

2.0 out of 5 stars So many problems, so little time May 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Wow, this book was really, really painful to read. I can only imagine that any of the five-star reviews were from friends of the author, because there is nothing about the book that would justify that kind of rating.

First, there were the myriad of technical errors such as paragraphs not being indented, misspellings, and grammatical errors. You could find a technical issue on every page, something that wouldn't even pass muster in a high school creative writing class.

The next failure of this book was the content. The constant shifting of perspective from one character to another was jarring and unnecessary. The plot was a paint-by-numbers job that at best was paper thin, which was still "deeper" than the characters. None of the characters had any real personality, and the relationships were assumed rather than developed. Hint, if the two main characters have feelings for each other that neither can explain, it's because the author can't figure out how to actually write the relationship. The dialogue between the two main characters was flat, their mood swings random, and the romance was forced. Yet this was still better than the relationship that emerged between two secondary characters that was painfully nonsensical.

Frankly, the only thing that prevented this from being a 1-star review was that the book was free, so the only thing I lost was my time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Even at 0.99, it was a waste of money... May 23, 2012

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is so incredibly poorly written, I couldn't finish reading it. The grammar, punctuation and usage was about at the level of a 10 year old. The story itself held promise, but the author added situations randomly, couldn't seem to keep track of what characters were involved in a given scene or conversation, jumped from one emotion and thought process to another and went off on tangents that were pointless (did we really need to know the length of each character's hair?) The story line was taking the characters to Las Vegas, then suddenly something about Utah was brought up, and there was discussion about the "mugginess" in Vegas. Mugginess?! In Vegas? Come on- even if you haven't been somewhere personally, wouldn't you at least try and research the area? The poor use of English basics were so distracting, there was no chance for me to get into the story. Don't waste your money or time on this.

More About the Author

I've been asked many times how I would describe The Binding. My usual response is "The Binding is about an ordinary girl who was saved by an elf prince. He takes her from her simple life to fulfill a contract in the realm of Velesi. The girl agrees to journey with the prince in hopes of finding her missing brother. On their way to the prince's realm, they face many obstacles and dangers."

I realize the injustice I have done, not only to myself as the author of The Binding, but to the story as well. The narrative is about people--two very special individuals and the people who love them. Sure, there's mortal threat, deception, intrigue and prevalent evil. There are physical battles and emotional ones of the mind and heart. There are ogres, trolls, and demons. There are also dryads, witches, wizards and assassins, a first glimpse of the dark elves, and love unrequited. Then there is the hope of reaching heaven...a place called Eirrell.

And, let's not forget about the cat--ah, the black stealth that will steal your heart and become a part of your world within the Velesi trilogy.

Within this chaotic and fantastic whirlwind, stand an elf prince and his halfling princess. Each looking for someone to complete them; destine to find what they never knew they were missing. Here is the heart of our story--Tharin and Lily. The Velesi trilogy is about their first meeting, their resistance to one another despite their strong connection, and finally, their acceptance of the fact that their strength lies within their Binding. Throughout their journey, they learn what it means to truly belong. It is a story of perseverance, hope, and most of all, love.

For those who have read Tharin's and Lily's story, I ask this one humble request- please share their story with family, friends, the mailman, the lady at the grocery store, the mechanic, your dental hygienist, and anyone who loves a good read. Send it to your Facebook and Instagram friends in Brazil, Jamaica, England, Japan, Mexico and wherever to whomever you write to. Tell them about Tharin's and Lily's story...spread the word and share the love!

Until the next time, good reading to all.
