Editorial Reviews

Review

  • This is a thrilling, action packed story, but being from the U.S. this was a cultural ride into the heart of Australia as well. I loved it - the language (OZ English and US English are different ), the landscape, and the drama. If all you know about Australia comes from Crocodile Dundee and The Crocodile Hunter, you'll be pleasantly surprised with their good fiction writers as well!- " Intriguing story" - alchemyofscrawl.
  • "Ann Massey weaves a tale of intrigue and conspiracy in this adventure thriller about biogerm warfare -  a good read for both young adults and older readers." - Shoma Mittra - Authorsden
  • "I love this book by Ann Massey. Mo and Beth are believable 3D characters in this suspenseful sci/fi novel. I truly enjoyed reading about their adventures from their first meeting as adversaries to becoming friends in the trying times they are facing."  - Dee Bibb - Goodreads

  • "I won this book thru the Goodreads First Reads program and I really liked it. I found it full of action, with that hint of romance, and was well paced. I found myself reading most of my Sunday afternoon and night away." - Rose - Goodreads

From the Author

When 'The Biocide Conspiracy'  was published in 2011,the idea of the ISS  being abandoned by its crew and crashing back to earth seemed incredible. Two years on the  6-person crew is scheduled to be reduced to three & ultimately abandoned. Without crew members on board to physically repair any malfunction the risk of losing station is now a very real possibility.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Biocide Conspiracy February 6, 2012
Format:Paperback
This book is set in the Australian outback and is about the International Space Station crashing to earth with biological weapons aboard. Mo, a teenage delinquent from the city, and Beth, a girl from the outback, must work together to stop the weapon from falling in the wrong hands.

I think this book would appeal to both boys and girls. There is a lot of action, with strong teenage characters. Mo, is basically a good boy who had made some bad decisions. He has been sent to the outback for rehabilitation because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He has a strong sense of right and wrong, and tries to do what is right. His growing feelings for Beth are dealt with in an age appropriate manner.

I liked that the story was set in Australia. It is a fascinating country and I enjoyed reading about life on a "station". The main characters were likable, and probably relatable for a younger reader.

I received this book for free from the goodreads first reads program.

Cheryl Casement's review - 4 out of 5 stars
Wow. I loved this book! If I had any criticism at all it would be that Mo and Beth must be superhuman to power through all the physical traumas and keep on going! I realize healthy teenagers are pretty resilient and adrenalin can do amazing things but...

I kept telling Mo and Beth not to trust anyone, but they ignored my mutterings as I kept turning pages! lol

Anyway, I give it 4 out of 5 stars and the review I am posting is this:

"Gripping and fast paced this novel tells the story of two teenagers from vastly different worlds who hate each other on sight. The two must somehow come together to save not only their own lives, but the human race. The novel is chock full of suspense, intrigue, even a little romance, and is not so far fetched. It has a satisfying ending, yet left this reader wanting more. I couldn't put it down!"

Dee Bibb's review 4 out of 5 stars

I won this book thru the Goodreads First Reads program and I really liked it. I found it full of action, with that hint of romance, and was well paced. Having this book set in Australia was refreshing. It was a fun read, I found myself reading most of my Sunday afternoon and night away.

More About the Author

I was born in 1945 and grew up in the tough environment of a council estate, in north-west Bolton. After emigrating to Australia at fifteen, I worked at various lacklustre jobs before going to live in the jungles of Borneo. It was at this time that I began to record heart-wrenching stories of the sexual exploitation of Iban girls, portrayed in 'The White Amah'. A stint as a governess on an outback sheep station provided the setting for my next book, 'The Biocide Conspiracy'. My new book, 'Salvation Jane', will be published in mid 2013. I live in Perth, Western Australia.
