John Audubon's legendary The Birds of America for Kindle, Volume 1, featuring restored versions of Plates 1-217, including Audubon’s famous depictions of the White-headed Eagle (Bald Eagle), Fish Osprey, Raven, Pileated Woodpecker, Raven, Golden Eagle, Barn Owl, Louisiana Heron, the extinct Carolina Parakeet and Passenger Pigeon, as well as over 200 others. While this eBook should work with any Kindle, or Kindle App, it is recommended for hand held devices with color screens.
Greetings, I simply must correct the previous reviewer who may not know that tapping a picture on the Kindle Fire opens it in a new window which allows manipulation of the viewing size using the pinching and expanding technique of navigating a touch screen. The creators of this edition acknowledge that the resolution is not hi-res, but by tapping and expanding, one really does get to experience the awe of Audubon's genius. It's true that some of the orientation is "wrong." But expanding and then barely tilting one's head provides a more than satisfactory experience. The price of admission to this amazing gallery is totally worth it.
I didn't expect much from this book. I bought it for the pictures. Unfortunately, many or most of the pictures are in the wrong orientation (sideways). Also, picture captions are so small you can hardly make them out. I don't recommend this book.
Labeling of the birds is too small and there is no real information about them in it. I will stick with my hard copy of the National Geographic's Birds of North America. I would gladly buy the kindle version of that.
