Book Description

The tight plot is well-paced and the action is tense...The strongest, most gripping relationship in the novel is between Noly and Kacy, the tough-as-nails PI and his kick-ass kid partner…A welcome foray into the Vegas PI genre, hopefully the first of many –----- Kirkus Reviews

THE BLACK CHIP is the story of Noly Boots, an ex-private detective that must re-enter the violent world he left in order to rescue his girlfriend and her daughter, abducted as pawns in a multi-million dollar theft.

As the novel opens, Sarah Benson, and her twelve year-old daughter, Kacy, learn about the gangland-style murder of Sarah’s brother. In fear for herself and her daughter, Sarah attempts to flee with Kacy, but is instead abducted by a mob-connected criminal and his cruel, unstable accomplice. Now Noly, using a network of friends, must find the two most important people in his life--and heaven help the bastards that took them, because Noly will show them no mercy.

5.0 out of 5 stars MOVE OVER JACK REACHER June 12, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
THE BLACK CHIP by Gary Land is a fast-paced, action, suspense that captivated my attention from the first page. If you've read any of Lee Child's 'Jack Reacher' and like him, you will love Noly Boots. He's tall, tough, experienced, dangerous and has a heart of gold for his girlfriend and her daughter.

Sarah's brother Joey gets killed scamming a casino, then Sarah and her daughter Kacy are kidnapped. The kidnappers soon realize they screwed up because they certainly don't want to mess with Boots. But the stage is set, the damage done, and Noly is mad. The author created a terrific story that takes the reader on a roller coaster of suspense. I especially loved the ending as I'm sure anyone will too.

I normally read and review 3-4 books per week, but it actually took me 4 days to read this book. Not because it's a long book, but because I wanted to savor the story. I just didn't want it to end.

I look forward to reading more from this author and I understand we will be seeing a lot more of Noly, Sarah and Kacy. I can't wait.

The Black Chip has earned my highest acolades. This fast-paced action/adventure is a page-turner that will keep you reading into the late hours of the night.

The characters are well-defined with the hereo being heroic, the villans being loathesomely bad and the quest a product of the gritty Vegas milieu.

The plot twists and turns in unexpected ways -- and will keep you turning those pages to learn how the story plays out. I can hardly wait to see what becomes of the heroic Noly Boots and his newfound family as they head into a bright, but action-packed, future.

This is the beginning of smash success for author Gary Land and you want to be among the first to discover this great talent. Recommending this book to your friends as a major find among more mundane offerings. As an avid reader of the genre, I can give you my personal assurance that it rarely gets better than this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Story July 9, 2012
By Laker
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Normally I am not too much into detective stories and gangster type books but I saw the good reviews and decided to try it. I found it to be an entertaining and highly complex story. The various characters are very well drawn and easily visualized. The Noly character was bigger than life and at times a little hard to believe but makes a great hero. Good job!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good characters are wasted with weak story November 24, 2012
By KDG
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The Black Chip has many great features, with a convoluted plot and assortment of excellent characters; however much of the good is wasted on a weak story. This reader felt like the author took liberty with the ability of his main character to ignore procedure, kill when more convenient than reason and expect others to clean up the messes. Couple that with the slightly overdone ability of the hero to quell discontent and contrary opinions with a cold stare and my overall opinion is that the author could have spent more time on plot vehicles instead of attitude.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fast and good read! July 1, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this story. I liked the characters, especially Kacy - I like brave and strong girls! The story was easy to read and fast to read! There were a few things that seemed a little bit off, like some of the killing that Noly gets away with, but it is an adventure and I would definitely recommend this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Suspenseful March 20, 2013

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
THE BLACK CHIP by Gary Land is an action, suspense book with another surprise around every corner. Noly Boots is the hero and could be one that could sustain other books. Lots of grammatical mistakes. But a story that holds your attention.

2.0 out of 5 stars not very intriging
Started out ok, but then story line sort of flattened, plot was very predictable. Read it to the end, but I felt it was not a page turner.

So nice to read an ebook that is well written with an interesting story line and likable but flawed hero. If this is a series I hope the author keeps on going.
