Editorial Reviews

World premiere of complete Carmine Coppola's 1979 scores (both of them!) for widely-praised Francis Ford Coppola big-screen presentation of popular Walter Farley novel, directed by Carroll Ballard, starring Kelly Reno, Mickey Rooney. Exhaustive search produces not only complete score as heard in picture but also powerful, big orchestral score by Coppola never used. Some incredible cues! Original versions of island ride sequence, snake & rescue scenes are dynamic never-before-heard highlights! 3-CD set also includes cues by Shirley Walker as well as re-mastered presentation of original 1979 United Artists album. Original album artwork is featured PLUS color reproductions of fabulous (also unused) original production paintings by legendary Bob Peak. Striking! Everything presented in crisp stereo from complete multi-track session masters, including all ad-lib percussion overlays. Massive, popular score finally gets spectacular release it deserves. Carmine Coppola, Dan Carlin conduct. Special Collection release limited to 1500 box sets!

One of the most amazing soundtracks of all time!

I'm not sure if finding this exact special collection will be easy, but I recommend the Black Stallion music soundtrack to anyone who loved the music as much as I did.
Jacinta C.
I wish they would provide the soundtrack in CD format - it looks like you can only get it via MP3 download.

I've wanted to own The Black Stallion music soundtrack for almost four years. I always loved the movie itself; it was touching and inspiring. I originally watched it when I was much younger in age, but I kept the movie and would occasionally watch it when the urge hit me. I think I began to notice the music selections in depth as I approached my 30's, which is hilarious to me. I started to fall in love with the music within the movie the more I watched it. The music is so incredible to me. My favorite selection is technically the 'End Credits', which is an enhanced version of the 'Theme from the Black Stallion' selection. Since I didn't own the music CD yet, I used my movie as an alternate source for enjoying the music. Sometimes, after a busy day at work, I would watch the ending credits of the movie itself just to enjoy the playful scene between Alec and Black whilst relaxing to the music selection.

Since the Black Stallion movie was so old, I honestly didn't think I'd be able to find the original music soundtrack for it anymore. But I decided to take a chance and search for it online and was shocked to find it on Amazon! I found it in December 18, 2013, saved my money, and ordered it on January 6, 2014; I received it within a few weeks. My order came from seller Soundtrackers. It arrived new, in perfect condition, and was packaged to protect the product. I'm appreciative and very satisfied.

The soundtrack I purchased was a special collection edition with three CDs and a booklet. CD 1 covers the music selections from 'The Island', CD 2 covers the music selections from 'Home and Everything Up Through the Race and Ending'. The Bonus CD includes the most popular music selections taken from CD 1 and CD 2. I love all three CDs.

Thank you, Intrada, for this fabulous 3-CD special collection, ALL from Coppola's first/original "The Black Stallion" movie !!! Thanks also to Amazon Marketplace Seller "Soundtrackers" for distributing it.

The 2014 review by Jacinta C. already does a good job of describing this Intrada Special Collection. See also my comment attached to that review.

The "Editorial Reviews" section for this set could have been better, and is even a bit confusing when it states "1979 scores (both of them!)." It is, however, spot-on in its closing: "Massive, popular score finally gets spectacular release it deserves. Carmine Coppola, Dan Carlin conduct. Special Collection release limited to 1500 box sets! "

In 1979, shortly after Francis Ford Coppola completed 'Apocalypse Now', he started work on Walter Farley's masterpiece about a beautiful horse that escapes a shipwreck with a young boy, and the two return to the United States and become a competitive horse-racing team. That story, of course, was 'The Black Stallion'.

As with 'Apocalypse Now', Francis Ford Coppola's father, Carmine, composed the score for 'The Black Stallion'. A better score could not have been created for this wonderful movie. For the record, this is the complete soundtrack - all the original score (and some unused cues, such as 'Fire on Board'), are included here. The best musical tracks seem to come after Alec & 'The Black' as he becomes known, reach the remote island after the shipwreck. Piano cues depict the horse as he appears on the beach, racing across the sand in front of Alec's cave that he uses as a shelter. In the sequence where Alec rides the stallion across the sand & through the surf, the orchestra gives a triumphant melody of brass & percussion cues as the two race through the surf. The score, one of Coppola's last, was a triumphant work that deserved an Academy Award.

A marvelous soundtrack, which any movie/soundtrack collector would be happy to have!
