More About the Author

Gun Brooke, born and living on the West Coast of Sweden, lives in a small, Viking era village with her family and dogs. She is a mother of two, now grown up, and grandmother of five. This keeps her young as she needs to stay current with these kids. Gun still finds time to write a new book every year. Sometimes two!
Gun loves romance and science fiction. She always injects romance in her sci fi as all her stories are character driven. That said, naturally her sci fi holds tons of adventure.
Apart from writing, Gun enjoys crafts, her dogs, anything to do with computers, collects makeup, and works hard on learning to create digital art. This has led to her creating book covers for herself and others. She uses DAZstudio and Photoshop, mainly, but also Zbrush, to create the 3D digital art which she renders into 2D images.
Gun has an extended family in the US and some of her best friends live there, and she tries to travel there at least once a year, preferably twice.
It is not a secret that Gun suffers from Multiple Sclerosis, for many years. This ended her career as a NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) nurse, but it also opened for a career in writing. This is important to Gun. She feels she can show her children, and others, you will always find something else around the corner. Even when things appear somber, you can find a new path, if you just dare to look. And then grab the tiger by the tail and dare to dream.

There are light spoilers within this review.

I'm a sucker for May/December romances and Gun seems to favour these. I liked that the characters actually talked to each other and got to know each other, rather than the usual met and fall in love in two weeks with little interaction stories that seem to be the norm in this category. I also liked that there wasn't a lot of gnashing of teeth over the age difference. I very much enjoyed Stacey's character and her relationship with Addie. But the story came undone due to a contrived split up drama towards the end (which seems obligatory in all Lesfic, so I guess it was to be expected) . The story could also have used a more thorough edit, there were misplaced or wrong words, and changed name spelling etc. throughout that broke the flow when reading. It's a nice enough read though.

I am a big fan of Ms. Brooke. I have enjoyed many of her books. A couple of them are in my “favorite section” of my bookcase which means I will reread them again and again. This story is sweet and engaging but in the end I was left wanting. I don’t have a problem with “love at first sight” or a rocket launch romance but this story was a little too fast and furious to have substance. There was not much time for Eleanor and Addison to connect. There was no getting to know each other period and definitely no cohabitation time in the story. Did the age difference ever come into question? Did Eleanor just fall into lesbianism because up until she met Addison she was “straight”? Anyway, I am still a fan and I look forward to the next story.

Love Coffee Sonata by Gun Brooke? Well this romance is IMO as good as that wonderful romance filled with music. This time the main story revolves around business (the beauty industry) and the collision of two worlds: Eleanor, the ultimate business barracuda, it seems, and Addison whose main priority is her sister. Unlikely though it seems there is instant attraction … Gun Brooke has created wonderful characters, a great focus on romance and with Stacey, the sister of Addison, an unexpected and adorable addition.

I bought this Book from the Publisher BSB, and I really enjoyed every page. Gun Brooke's stories have always amazed me with their depth and dialogue. She manages to interweave her past stories with her current book, and it's always comforting to see where the past characters currently are in their lives.

You should definitely purchase this book if you have read her past books and lover her writing. You should also just buy it because its a wonderful story. You will enjoy it immensely.

Gun Brooke is a wonderful and prolific writer. Her writing skill centers in her ability to get into the heads and hearts of her characters. In The Blush Factor, the reader is front and center to the developing relationship between middle-aged, top-of-the-food-chain corporate exec, Eleanor and Addison, a much younger makeup expert. Brooke leads you through the intimacy of their connection including the always present challenges. A great read!

Where’s the conflict or should I say, what is the conflict? It wasn’t the age issue as Addison barely addressed it, thus clearly making it a non-issue. Addison’s problem with accepting help was the climax of the story? (Her sister stole the climax by creating drama from her health issue. I got excited with this story when a lovable character is potentially about to die? I prefer death over boredom?) Eleanor’s reasoning for her ‘help’, as she was defending herself, was clearly noble and thoughtful. Addison’s inability to accept ‘help’ only served to remind me of Marlene Dietrich’s statement, ‘sex with a woman is better but who can live with a woman?’ Does anyone else see the ‘clique’ that has developed inside the Bold Strokes Publishing Co? Do I really need to go back to ‘queer reading’ by replacing the male gender in romance novels to derive satisfaction from my obsession to read? I hope not because queer reading doesn’t work when the sexual thingy on the male’s body is mentioned. As the following authors never mentioned the mail (denying the image evoked from the correct spelling) anatomy, Jane, Emily, Charlotte, Edith, Virginia, Ayn….where are you?

In The Blush Factor, Gun Brooke pairs Eleanor Ashcroft, a successful business woman who owns 55% of the shares in her company, with Addison Garr, a You Tube success. Their's is a May December romance, which Brooke handles quite well. She also succeeds in showing the strengths of her characters, along with their vulnerability. Eleanor is trying to restore her make up company, Face Exquisite, back to what it was before her father nearly destroyed it. After seeing Addison Garr's You Tube video tutorials on makeup, she quickly offers her a position at Face Exquisite. What follows is a sizzling attraction between the two women. Addison is raising her sister, now a teenager, after the death of her parents. The teasing, witty Stacey adds a very nice lightness to the corporate New York setting. Brooke continues to keep her books exciting, and, her sex scenes hot! The Blush Factor will keep readers turning pages until the satisfying end.
