4.0 out of 5 stars Running To Whitney, November 6, 2009
This review is from: The Bodyguard - Original Soundtrack Album (MP3 Download)
When it has came down to it, back in the 1990's the music industry had been known for the best movie songs that have topped the Billboard Charts. There was Celine Dion, whom had been known for her signature ballads like My Heart Will Go On from Titanic, and When I Fall In Love from Sleepless In Seattle. But, while Celine had a lot of great movie songs, nobody had dominated the movies in singing and in acting in the 90's like Whitney Houston. Her reign as a singer/actress had not lost its luster with the massive success of her signature songs like Exhale from Waiting To Exhale becoming the first movie song to debut at #1 on the singles charts, a Oscar-Winning song with When You Believe from The Prince Of Egypt, and her music from The Preacher's Wife in 1996, which ran for over 1 year at #1 on Billboard's Gospel charts and included a signature remake of The Four Tops standard I Belive In You And Me. But when it has came down to what makes Whitney best at her ballads from films, none of them has been able to top the impact of the music from The Bodyguard, as the most successful movie soundtrack of all time. While, there are so many people whom had been turned off from Whitney Houston because of her personal issues the past several years, she had bounced back well this year with 2009's I Look To You, but there are those who just love her movie songs, than this would be the treat for you.

The 1992 soundtrack for the movie The Bodyguard mainly showcases Whitney Houston as her signature voice, with the music that showcased Whitney, as well as other acts like Arron Neville, the soulful and bluesy Joe Cocker, and many other acts. But, it is mainly Whitney that has the spotlight, with her biggest movie songs that still stand the test of time like the Grammy-Winning #1 track I Will Always Love You, which still is the longest-running movie song to stay at #1 on Billboard, as well as her other biggest songs including a well-rendered cover of Chaka Khan's I'm Every Woman, as well as the intimate standards Run To You and I Have Nothing. Her other songs like Queen Of The Night also hit the nail on the head well. The other tracks from the other artists like Joe Cocker's Trust In Me add a lot of merit to the album as well, but it still remains Whitney as the one who hits the nail on the head.

Overall, while there are a lot of movie soundtracks lately that don't seem to have that appreciation with music buyers everywhere lately, The Bodyguard soundtrack still remains as one of the best that honestly come around once in a lifetime. If you are a hard core fan of Whitney Houston, or haven't seen the film, but adore the music, than this would be a absolute must have in your music library.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'll be the first to review this classic album!, March 22, 2009
This review is from: The Bodyguard - Original Soundtrack Album (MP3 Download)
This has to be her crowning achievement. This album really seemed to hit her at the height of her career. I will Always love you has to be one of the best love songs ever written, and I get chills when I hear it still. The video is amazing, and I love how well Whitney can control her voice w/o the mariah carey dramatics. I'm every woman is a great song(i don't really listen to it cause Im guy), but it's a song well known by every one and is very upbeat! The surprise to me was Queen of the Night! Im truly surprised this wasn't a bigger hit for her. I think that has to be one of the best pop dance songs she's ever done! It's great to see her go in hard rock direction like Janet Jackson's Black Cat. I really love artists who are versatile when they try to pick music. Jesus Loves Me is excently sung and I'm glad she wasn't afraid to record this at a time when contemparay christian had become what it is today. I think this is her best album, crowning achievement, and to me I think it was hard for her to follow up this monster soundtrack! If anybody loves pop music, rock, or gospel, then this is the album to get. It truly is one of the best of all time!
