Obviously the Bell family, who owns the rights to "The Bold and the Beautiful" (the world's most-watched soap opera) saw the incredible sales of the Proctor and Gamble owned soaps "Guiding Light" and "As the World Turns" had on DVD so now comes an "official" DVD release of "B and B" featuring the series' first 16 episodes.

See how the stories all began back in the early spring of 1987 when Stephanie Forrester first met Brooke or when Ridge met Brooke and how the Forrester family made a solid mark in the California fashion industry.

What is amazing about these shows all 16 episodes were written soley by its creator William J. Bell while he continued to write "The Young and the Restless".

The stories are involving and many smack of the early days of "Young and Restless", but still the serial became known for the solid performance of Susan Flannery, an Emmy winner for her work on "Days of Our Lives", as Stephanie whom soap opera historian Chris Schemering called "a fascinating alabaster sphinx of a woman".

Let's hope there are more sets like this to follow!

I was very pleased with this set. I was born in 1987, so I obviously was not able to see the first few years of this show. I am familiar with the history of the show, but it's still good to actually see the episodes and watch the show unfold from the beginning. I only had a couple of complaints with the set.

1) I wish that they had more episodes in the set than just 16. Overseas, the box sets come in 25 episode sets. I hope in the future, they will consider including more episodes in the sets.
2) There aren't any "extras" on the DVD. You basically get the episodes and that's it. When I put in the first DVD, I thought maybe I had hit a wrong button, b/c it literally went right into the episode. I was like "Is this the beginning?" It could benefit from chapter selection and maybe some other behind-the-scenes extras/interviews.

Other than those two complaints (which are minor, in my opinion), I really enjoyed it. Can't wait until they release more!

It's great that the suits at CBS has finally released this version in the US after having sets released overseas for years. Seeing how some storylines and characters evolve over the last 25 years has been great. With the recent departures of Ronn Moss and Susan Flannery, it's especially cool to see them in their early days of B & B. Looking forward to future releases.

Finally for the US fans! Its been a long time coming for them as they now get to revisit the start of the worlds most watched daytime tv-show, The Bold And The Beautiful.

First 16 episodes is a somewhat cautious start. Here in Europe we got the 25 first episodes in 2011 and since then we have gotten a total of 7 box-sets so far.. with the first 175 episodes of the show, and hopefully more is around the corner.

With the first 16 you get to see how it all began. The hair was big, the shoulderpads were bigger. Before Stephanie and Brookes ongoing feud, there was a young lady called Caroline Spencer, who was going to marry Los Angeles playboy number 1, Ridge Forrester. Needless to say, the rest is history.

I hope the sales goes well, so the US viewers gets served more boxes in the future. The first 5 years of the show is some of the best that the daytime genre has served us.

Happy 25th B&B!

Well Well Well finally there is someone who has dvd rights to a soap opera who understands why soap fans love soaps. If you don't understand why soaps are different than any other tv genre, you release things like 2 discs full of unrelated episodes with no story to tell. This is what we want, this is what we will spend our hard earned money on, this is why we love soaps - the WHOLE story, all the scenes, all characters, no matter how nominal, every detail no matter how pointless a scene seems to be, no matter how "unnecessary" an episode seems to be in regard to an overall storyline, all of it matters, because it is about the people and the stories, the who and the why and the when, not just the "major" episodes from a story, not just the characters in big stories, not just the scenes related to a single story, ENTIRE EPISODES ALL IN A ROW.

If there were the high chance of many releases of many soaps, over time, I would rate this lower because for the price, it is a complete rip-off. At this rate, if they are all released, I'll go broke trying to get them. However, since it is the first release and I have wasted all my ability to hope on SoapClassics, I will assume we won't get the other soaps we want and not much more of B&B either, in which case, this deserves 5 stars for releasing it properly - not a few of each of the first 3 years epoisodes crammed together with no story, but the way we want it - 16 in a row, in full.

I didn't ever watch B&B and don't watch it now, so I am not connected to the characters yet, like I would be if it was another soap - sticking with Bell, I'd choose Y&R from the beginning before B&B - or if its one I haven't watched, I'd rather any of the much older cancelled soaps, because you can get it from beginning to end evntually.
