About the Author

Linda Ball was born and raised in the great and wild state of Alaska, a second-generation, genuine Alaskan. In 1996, she moved to what Alaskans call the "lower 48." She has had an adventurous life — then the boom dropped when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011. Ms. Ball has worked as a journalist for both daily and weekly newspapers since 2001, winning several awards. This is her first book.

I thought I could guess what it was really like to go through a cancer diagnosis and treatment. But I did not. Along with the terrible realization that you may be sick enough to die, is the long road that must be traveled through dozens and dozens of appointments, endless hours in waiting rooms, enduring sickening treatments and the waiting and watching as your hair falls out.

And yet it is immensely readable. Ms. Ball's refreshing, plainspoken and honest approach to her story — a story we have heard many times before — is personal and poignant; full of details about how she tries to keep her balance as she tries to hang on to a relationship and finds herself without a job.

But this is not a sad story. It is funny. It moves quickly.
I would recommend this to anyone facing cancer - and to friends, family and co-workers who need to know what what it all entails.

This memoir is a compilation of a blog and some retrospection during the diagnosis, treatment, recovery and life after breast cancer. It is wonderfully written. It is witty, heartfelt, honest, poignant and very real. Ms. Ball has a wonderful tone, you feel like she is a good friend by the end. She is very frank about her feelings, what happens to her body and who she is with cancer and on the other side of it. I loved this book.

"The Boob Blog" by Linda Ball is just what the doctor ordered. An insightful, realistic and witty account of the author's cancer ordeal. With her honest and raw depictions, Linda allows us to join her as she copes with the diagnosis of breast cancer. She faces cancer head on with humor, learned knowledge and a personal strength she never thought she possessed.
"The Boob Blog" is a compilation of daily journal entries that reveal the events the author endured as she took each step towards regaining her health. Through her words and actions we feel her fears and emotions take over, but we also share in her quest for medical knowledge along with the daily routine of a life enjoyed with music, travel, friends and above all humor. Her journey is an unending one, as it will always be a part of her, and this book will be a reminder of her courage and tenacity.
"The Boob Blog" should be a must read for everyone whose life has been touched by cancer and a perfect read for anyone who wants to spend time reading about a positive outcome, through a difficult situation, with an adventurous woman.

The Boob Blog is an intimate diary of Linda Ball's battle with breast cancer that will have readers crying -- and crying from laughter. How does an admittedly vain woman deal with a diagnosis of breast cancer, a mastectomy and breast reconstruction? A true scrapper, she refuses to let cancer take over her life. She fits in time for her manis, pedis and wild adventures -- including a fiery relationship with a much younger man while battling bouts of depression and questions of her worth and meaning in life. Anyone who has fought breast cancer or been affected by cancer in their loved ones will be able to identify with many of the feelings the author experienced from diagnosis to treatment to recover and ultimate victory over the disease. I highly recommend this book.

Linda writes from the heart and has witty, raw, straight forward voice that is refreshing. She brings honest emotions and insight that only comes from experience and balances it with facts and knowledge learned from her medical team, supporters and her own research. It's touching and informative, a book that will be helpful in some way to anyone who reads it, but especially breast cancer patients and those who love them.
