Book Description

The complete collection of The Bounty Hunter series one. The Bounty Hunter stories follow Burke, a veteran of the lost war for Earth, and Cass, an AI that embodies a suit of power armor and a starship.

This collection includes all five novellas of the first series and two bonus stories:

Revenge - The first in the series. Burke is betrayed by his partner Adam and is left for dead on a remote world. He struggles to survive while relying on Cass, an AI that came with his recently purchased power armor.

Redemption - Set roughly one year after the events of Revenge, Cass is helping Burke rebuild his old life. This story deals with many of the details on bounty hunting and how the human civilization operates in space.

Vampire - Burke and Cass are given a difficult contract: to hunt down one of the most elusive breeds of alien in the galaxy. Dubbed vampires for their shapeshifting capabilities, the aliens are surrounded by many false truths and conspiracy theories.

Into The Swarm - Set directly after the events of Vampire, Cass and Burke are given the job of returning to the abandoned and infested planet Earth to retrieve a vital piece of hardware.

Reckoning - The series finale sees Burke and Cass in a seemingly favorable position: they have saved up enough money for an advanced new starship and are awaiting its delivery. Unknown to them, someone Burke wronged in the past has tracked him down to exact some vengeance of their own.

Two extra stories are also included in this collection:

Marines Against the Swarm - A short story based in the same universe as the Bounty Hunter series. Jack is a marine fighting a losing battle on Earth's surface during the heart of the alien invasion.

The Monster Slayer: Origins - The first novella in a new fantasy series by Joseph Anderson.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very enjoyble set of stories. February 7, 2014

This book is several small novellas wrapped up into one larger novel.

The author starts the story out with the main character (Burke) being betrayed by his partner and left to die. Of course, he survives with a thirst for revenge and the story starts out there.

Burke is a bounty hunter with a conscience so he has some ethical dilemmas that he has to work though, not just in taking vengeance but in his daily effort to be a 'proper' bounty hunter.

The supporting cast of characters include an Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) being that works with him, some long term employers, new friends, old enemies

There is plenty of action but we don't get deluged with repetitive descriptions of equipment or overly detailed on the fight scenes. We see not just Burke but other characters develop as they run into new situations and the results of how they left things in the past.

The setting for this in in a Universe where Mankind no longer inhabits planet Earth. The book does not start out showing why this happens but it does bring in the demise of Earth as part of the story line, not just in Burke's history but other characters, good and bad. We also have intrigue, deception, betrayal (overt and covert) and Politics (Just a bit) rearing it's head.

The writing style is easy, not overly technical and has a good flow. References to past events are frequent but are a good part of the story and allow a good way to fill in some details we would want to know.

I have read the first and second books now. I am looking forward to the third one.

The Bounty Hunter is a series of novellas featuring Burke Monrow and his AI Cass. While each novella is good, especially Revenge, putting it all together in a one books series is even better. After reading the whole series, I'm eager to read more. For those who enjoy the sci-fi worlds similar to Halo, Firefly, and Starship Troopers, The Bounty Hunter series is one you will enjoy with glee. While perhaps the overall theme of the story may not be a new one, the tale weaved by Joseph Anderson is nonetheless satisfying while working some unique twists along the way.

Burke Munrow makes a living as an well-armored bounty hunter along with his best friend. Things are working out great, the money is decent, and the jobs are flowing, until one day his best friend turned on him and killed him. Or, he thought he killed him, and left his "corpse" on a deadly deserted planet where only daring smugglers would try to inhabit. Only Burke Munrow did not die, though he wish he did. He barely survives the murder attempt, his body broken and his life on a thread. Only through the help of his suit's AI Cass is he kept alive. Then came nightfall and the true nightmares began. Only the thought of revenge kept Burke hanging on to life despite the the trials he faced ahead.

There is enough content here to make one hell of a book on this part alone. It's fascinating he kept it novella size. The other follow up stories are all intriguing reads as well. Reckoning was a great way to wrap up this first series of short stories while opening up a whole new arc in which I hope will be Series Two.
So, hurry up, Mr. Joseph Anderson. I want to know what happens next!

Added to the end of the book is an intriguing fantasy novella on a new series the author is working on that reminds me of the game Amnesia and Warcraft. I'll have to check those out as well.

Joseph Anderson has created and interesting series in the Bounty Hunter. This book was very interesting and was well written. The small editing or english errors do not distract from the story. I travel alot and this was a satisfying time filler. I have read the full series and it was entertaining. These comments was repeated through the whole series of ratings. The series was a good read and the books were of similar quality and length.
