His name was Dan Britton, but he used other names—Ben Travis and Rex Farley among them—because both lawmen and outlaws hunted him for the bounty Sam Grayson had put on his head to get even with Britton for killing his brother. Grayson was himself an outlaw and the leader of other outlaws who had joined the hunt for Britton. All of them had prices on their heads. Britton finally decided to collect some bounties himself.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 star Western from a master story teller July 5, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Van Holt has that simple but rare ability to enchant you with his tales of the Wild West. This must be about my fourth novel from this grand master of the western, and his novels just seem to get better and better. I'd like to say that his style grows on you with each book, but the truth is that I enjoyed his writings from the very start.

This time we have Dan Britton, who like many of Van Holt's characters is a villain but who also appeals to you, especially in these unsure times when the line between law and disorder are not always clear cut. With many a man with a bounty on his head, this is just the recipe for a good old action, gun-slinging, Western. Yet Van Holt's novels have so much more, with intriguing plots, beguiling women, cold-blooded murderers, and unexpected twists in each of his stories, and this one is no different.

I encourage you to try out this book. Once you read one of his books, you'll want to read another.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Wild West At It's Very Best With Van Holt June 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Travel the American old west countryside with author, Van Holt in a riveting western novel that will have aficionados of the genre begging for more.

This is the first book I have read by Van Holt, but I am beyond a fan of his writing style. He captivates the reader from the first page and drags you through a rip-roaring chase after a known murderer of many names and alias. And the best part of it all, the man who has the bounty out, has an even larger bounty on his own head!

Traditional put 'em up gunfights, murders, plot twists and more makes this novel an enthralling read. That doesn't take into account the bounty hunters, the old wild west cowboys, the bewitching women of the era and every other detail Van Holt makes sure stands out in this novel.

The only downfall I had for this book is that it ended. I will be grabbing more of Van Holt's westerns simply to see what other wonders he has written.

Rex Farley, a.k.a. Ben Travis, a.k.a. Dan Britton, by any name this man reeks of danger and menace. Another great villain from the mind of Van Holt, but as usual the line is a bit blurred on whether he is truly a villain or a man doing what the old west requires for survival. In the Bounty Hunter we get another look at America in a time when having a gun was not just for show or range practice but was the key to survival. There are more questions surrounding the death of Chet Ramsey's son, Lyle than anybody would be comfortable with. Ben Travis was taken in by Ramsey and given a home and a job. He gave him the position of foreman causing a rift between father and son. But just what was Lyle doing at the ranch the day he was killed when he should have been out with the men and why were the Grayson Gang members at the Ranch anyway?

The bounty hunter Link Colman certainly is not interested in the answers to the obvious questions. He wants the reward and knows that this time getting his man will not be easy. This is the good part, he has to get his man before the Grayson gang exacts its revenge, that is if he ever hopes to get a dime. If you loved the Clint Eastwood movies like "A Fist Full Of Dollars" then you will want to add this to your Van Holt collection today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Van Holt Western October 17, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I like when two like minded rough men can become friends and Van Holt has a sway of including this theme in his books. Ben Travis is a man bent on revenge. Linc Colman, a bounty hunter is after the $5,000 bounty onTravis's head - or is that really the reason Colman is hunting Travis? Two beautiful female's make the story more interesting. One is a beautiful mexican spitfire married to a much older man, while the other is an apparent lady. I enjoyed this book and recommend it.
