I have long been a fan of David Solway for the facility with which he captures the essence of Israel's predicatment - particularly his treatment of her fellow travelers, self saboteurs, duplicitous scoundrels, and assorted other useful idiots. No one does it better! Israel's situation is really quite simple - she accepted the original terms of the U.N. partition, wanting only to be left alone to build a nation. Her "neighbors' have never accepted those terms, have attacked her on numerous occasions, the result of one of those attacks being the acquisition of additional territory by Israel. She has given back much of that territory - sometimes unilaterally - and still some of her "neighbors" wish to annihilate her. And, unfortunately, some of her "so called friends" agree with them, or, in their way of seeing things, wish her only to make concessions which threaten her existence. This very brief effort neither captures the reality of Israel's dangerous situation nor does it do justice to Solway's latest effort, The Boxthorn Tree. The book, like all of Solway's literary endeavors, is a must (and most compelling) read. Solway strikes again!! Ken Eliasberg

I am reading this one essay at a time. Each one is no more than a few page and singularly perceptive on issues of importance regarding Israel and Jews worldwide.

This is an eloquently-written and thoroughly researched piece of work. It seeks to tear down the blinders and the self-destructive stupidity of the Western liberal elite and progressivist left-wing thinkers (including many Jews) concerning the world's behavior towards Israel.

Essentially, throughout this book, one sees how Israel is judged differently among all nations. Only Israel must not defend itself, must make concessions potentially inimical to its very survival as a Jewish state, and must "make peace" with those utterly committed to its annihilation.

Solway's arguments are lucid, logical, and well researched. After reading his descriptions of particularly Orwellian phenomena in the treatment of Israel - such as Archbishop Rowan Williams and his fellow travelers blaming Israel for the plight of the Christians in the Middle East when Israel is the only country in the region where Christians may practice their religion freely and not live in constant fear of bombings, shootings, and stabbings - well, you don't know whether to laugh or cry (although the latter is more likely).

This book really should be required reading. Many people and organizations in the world today are working subtly (or not so subtly) toward the destruction of Israel, including many liberal-left Jews. What this would mean for the Jewish people can only be imagined.
