Book Description

Avery James has her life planned out: this summer she'll work with a humanitarian program in Costa Rica, next year she'll graduate at the top of her class, and after that, college and medical school. Perfect, planned, total order.

The only problem: getting the rest of the money she needs for the trip before the deadline. Hannah Cohen, her biggest competition for the valedictorian title, makes an unexpected offer: If Avery can win over Zac Greeley and make him break up with Hannah before the end of the school year, a check for five hundred dollars is all hers. Faced with the prospect of spending yet another summer working as a giant hot dog, it's an offer Avery can't refuse.

Zac is nothing like Avery expected. Within his chaotic world of midnight slushie runs and spontaneous dance parties, her total order is quickly falling apart while Hannah seems poised to get everything she wants. But just how much is Avery willing to give up for the perfect, planned life?

THE BOYFRIEND THIEF is an approximately 66,000 word/264 page contemporary young adult novel.

About the Author

Most days, Shana Norris still feels like she's stuck at sixteen, which is probably why she
enjoys writing about teens. Thankfully, she's never had to work as a giant hot dog, but she did
work at a locksmith shop making keys for six months. She currently lives in a small town in
eastern North Carolina with her husband and small zoo of pets, which currently includes two
dogs and five cats.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Boyfriend Thief January 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
My Thoughts: I had seen this one popping up on goodreads multiple times as people marked it as To-Read. I wasn't sure about it but saw it browsing Barnes and Noble one night so figured what the heck, I'll buy it for my nook.

We are introduced to Avery, who is very motivated. She gets straight A's, wants to go on a trip to Costa Rica. Problem, she needs more money. She has some saved but not nearly enough. So when her ex best friend Hannah from years ago, offers her 500 dollars to steal Hannah's boyfriend, she jumps right on it. That's 500 more dollars toward her trip fund. She would be foolish to say no. Its not like her job selling hot dogs and dressing up as one is paying the bills well enough.

She starts to hang out with Zac (Hannah's boyfriend) because she gets paired with him on a project. Simple enough to steal him, right? I mean she already has to be around him. Things don't go as planned as Avery starts to actually think he's a nice guy and why would Hannah even want rid of him? Of course, things aren't always what they seem and its not like Zac and Avery are a match made in heaven either. There is a lot of drama in this book between lots of different people. There are also laughs, jokes, cute moments, etc.

That is basically the story, I'm not going to say anything else. My Boyfriend Thief was really creative, and it was a sweet contemporary young adult novel. If your looking for something light and cute than read this now! Yes, there are a few lessons to be learned here, but mostly it is for fun and enjoyment. Moments to make you go awwwww.

Overall: Really liked it a lot. Don't read too many e-books so this was a nice change.

Cover: I love the legs and shoes! Love how she is barely stepping on his toes. Very romantic!

What I'd Give It: 4/5 Cupcakes

3.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious opening scene January 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Avery has a plan - one that she has plotted out down to the last detail. Graduate at the top of her class, spend a summer working with a humanitarian program in Costa Rica, get into a top college and attend medical school. The only thing that is standing between her and her goals is money. She's had enough of working at the local hot dog joint. So when Hannah offers her all the money she needs to make the Costa Rica trip a reality, Avery jumps at the chance even though it means successfully stealing Hannah's boyfriend, Zac.

The trouble with being a boyfriend thief is that you begin to fall for the boy your supposed to be tricking out of a relationship and Avery doesn't have time for that. Plus, she's constantly worried about her best friend's crush and his apparent cheating ways, and her father's new girlfriend, and the reason her mother left them... life is a little much for Avery.

What I Thought:

The plot was interesting. The idea that a girl would pay off someone else to steal her boyfriend so she doesn't have to be the one breaking up is pretty weird and interesting.
The side drama of a missing mom, a dating dad, a crushing best friend... it didn't gel as well with the book as I wanted it to.
Loved Zac's character and his crazy antics. I know several guys like this and it was refreshing to see a main guy character not have everything so put together.
Interesting short read.

5.0 out of 5 stars supercute, funny, heartfelt, and uplifting December 2, 2011

A supercute, funny, heartfelt, and uplifting read. Avery is a hilarious and heartbroken young lady, fiery and yet so vulnerable at the same time, with a lot of damage to sort through. Lucky for her, the utterly adorable Zac is her polar opposite, and as they're paired to work on a school project together, she doesn't even know what's about to hit her.

One of the things I love most about the writing is how it weaves between side-splitting humor and deep emotional depth. The Boyfriend Thief is sweet enough for younger teens, and a refreshing and romantic pick for grown women. Lots of laugh-out-loud humor and the intense emotional scenes are perfectly expressed. I enjoyed this a lot!
