Book Description

December 1, 2009
According to a September 2006 episode of the The Oprah Winfrey Show, countless American women are in need of a serious “bra intervention.” Eighty-five percent of women are wearing the wrong bra. What else don’t we know about which one is the right one?

The Bra Book author Jené Luciani—a fashion expert and a go-to guide for beauty advice—once and for all arms women with the knowledge they need to find the right fashion support. From the best bra to wear under every outfit to important information about bras and breast health from puberty to retirement, from the physics behind bra design to how you can best ensure a proper fit, The Bra Book is the source for women everywhere.

Luciani’s warm, supportive style guides the reader through a minefield of bra facts, fallacies and faux-pas in chapters like “The Herstory of Bras,” “Breast RX,” and “Mountains vs. Molehills.” Each chapter offers expert advice alongside a plethora of photographs and useful diagrams, witty quotes from real men and women, tons of tips and a tear-out guide to take the confusion out of bra shopping—and put the fun back in. The Bra Book doesn’t just tell women how bras work; it shows them how to make their bras work for them!

She read the book and then went to a store to get measured. She was sooo surprised when she found out her size she was use to was sooo off. Now she is pain free and so happy with the results. Thanks so much for the helpful info. A great gift for the holidays.

2.0 out of 5 stars Recycled content and terrible in electronic format December 4, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
While I wasn't expecting to be completely blown away by 'ah ha' revelations, I found little that was new in this book. I was disappointed that it contained much content recycled from other sources, and a lot of 'self advertizement' for the author's own company (I'm sure they have wonderful products, and I will check them out, but still...)

I haven't seen the physical book but it was obvious by the seemingly haphazard formatting that it wasn't reformatted for electronic consumption (at least on a Kindle). Side panels, tips and tricks, images and associated descriptions were hard to follow. And the constant switching from left aligned to centered, initially thought to be showing different sections, just ended up appearing to be random. Missing spaces, typos, truncated text all detracted from a smooth reading experience. Even after adjusting my reading font size to a smaller size (which improved a few things but of course made it harder for me to read), it just wasn't worth it.

The scary thing about this is I happened upon the book as a result of watching an episode of "Mad Fashion" which was about the author having a grand launch party for the electronic release of this book! I thought that implied some effort to actually make an electronic rendition.

All I can say is that it was barely worth the $3.00. If you want this book, I suggest you look at the physical version.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well-written and highly informative. January 7, 2011
Format:Paperback
Jene Luciani really knows her bras. Having read this book, I finally feel like I understand how to choose a bra that fits my body size and shape properly. The author's expertise on bra fitting, evident in her much-needed clarifications on how bra sizing really works, is one of the book's major strengths.

Luciani's voice is engaging, and her dry sense of humor provides necessary levity. This is, after all, a book about underwear! The text strikes an effective balance between entertainment and education.

Women blessed (or cursed?) with "mountains" -- Luciani's delightful term for large breasts -- will find this book especially helpful. Her chapter on "molehills" is less comprehensive, and as an A-cup I found myself wanting more information and advice on finding bras to fit my curve-challenged figure.

Overall, The Bra Book is a fun read and an excellent reference guide. If the book came in a smaller size, I'd stick it in my purse and take it along on bra shopping trips!
