Book Description

In The Breakup, Aja Rain has sliced all ties with her controlling boyfriend. She accidentally used a knife, and now she has become something of a media sensation. Her family wants her ex-boyfriend to pay an even steeper price for his transgressions against Aja, but she won't be a part of it.

To escape the media attention and the conflict between her family and Stephen, her ex-boyfriend, Aja flees to Italy. There she finds vineyards, golden landscapes, Marco and Pietro. It is time to put her life back together.

She does not know her ex-boyfriend is on his way. He is not finished with her yet.

The Breakup is a romantic tale of a woman who longs to be with the right man, only to realize that searching for Mr. Right has led her down the wrong path. Will she find what she is looking for? Will Stephen get his revenge?

2.0 out of 5 stars What a let down October 11, 2012
By B
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
So the story follows Aja (Asia) and her horrible break up with a guy she stayed with as he abused her; all the way to Italy in an attempt to get away from public view and outrun the man set on finding and killing her. It had great promise but the characters never really develop into anything worth remembering. Aja was a wuss, and Im not a feminist by any means, but she was so helpless she should really should be dead. She does fight off her attacker and in the process make him so angry he wants to kill her but after the failed attempt she flees to Italy where she meets Marco and his Nona, as well as Julianne and Bella, and Pietro...while all could have been so much more they just werent. Then bam everyone is in love and getting married and then the climax and whammo story is over....I couldnt believe such a decent story line could be botched so bad. I read A LOT and usually wont write a bad review unless I really want people to steer clear and not waste their time without warning....this was one of the few cases. I gave it 2 stars because it did have potential and there were a few funny points but even that was me being nice. Thank goodness this was free!

5.0 out of 5 stars a little wine please October 12, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is the first regular romance that I have sat and read in a while. I loved it and it made me realize that maybe all is not lost in regular romance. It had a love triangle, really hot men, wonderful friendships, and beautiful women.
The story was wonderfully written, making laugh and cry. The characters were amazingly well thought out. The most intriguing thing though was the fact that it did not follow the normal boy meets girl like a typical romance. A typical romance you know exactly what would happen pretty much as soon as the girl and guy meet. Not in this story, which I have to say was very refreshing.
Aja, (which by the way is a name I absolutely love) is our heroine, she is recovering from a horribly abuse situation. This situation is not only frightening it is humiliating. She has the typical over protective Italian family that I fell in love with.
We have two very eligible hot men that want her, and she is attracted to both of them. The only problem is that she is scared because of her issues with the ex-boyfriend. I found myself laughing, crying, angry and happy in this book. I give it 5 out of 5 stars and would recommend it to everyone that likes a good love story that does not follow the typical recipe most romances follow. I look forward to more novels by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down October 13, 2012

The book had great characters and the plot flowed amazingly. The only thing that I did not like is the way the book ended. The author left it open for another book maybe.

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is my first book by Brenda Grate, and I loved it. I read it in one sitting, it kept me guessing and the romance in Italy was perfection. I would love a follow up on the other two couples...and finding out what Aya's parents think of her choices!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, Sweet, Good read April 11, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I loved this story. It was well written, the characters were amazing and it was overall cute. I didn't like how perfectly the couples fell together, I don't think it's very realistic, but there was a nice happy ending.

More About the Author

Brenda Grate was born in Santa Rosa, California, and has spent most of her life in Western Canada. She began writing as a teenager, writing mostly poetry and began her first novel in her early twenties while she raised four children.

Supporting other writers is important to Brenda. During her time as the President of the Interior Author's Group in Western Canada, she helped many other writers find their path toward publication.

"I've just concluded reading "Love Hurts" by Brenda Grate. Generally, I'm the type of reader that may bounce from book to book, perhaps reading as many as 3-4 books simultaneously. However, because the subject matter in this book was so intense, I set aside the others I was reading and read it exclusively. It took me longer than I normally take, as it has forced me to process some feelings and events which I am currently writing about, having to walk away from it from time to time in order to process what has transpired in my own life. When a book causes growth in a person, your time with it was not wasted and you come away being better than you were. I recommend this book to anyone wishing something of substance. It's a very good read, and it grabs you from start to finish." ~Reviewer

Brenda is an avid linguistics student. Along with English, she knows Sign Language, speaks Italian, Spanish, some French, and some Greek. She is currently working on improving her Italian.

She lives in Umbria, Italy with her husband, bestselling author, Jonas Saul, and their two lovely cats, Cianna and Bello.

Brenda and her husband travel Europe extensively to research their novels. They have lived for extended periods in Denmark, Italy, and Greece and have traveled to many other countries, including Hungary, The Netherlands, and Sweden. Brenda has enjoyed exploring many new places which she incorporates as settings in her books.

"I could not put this book down. I began it last night and I have spent the whole day reading it. The writing of the emotional scene was so intense as if the writer has actually lived the life of each character personally. The relationships between the characters rings like real people and the momentum of how one emotional event is the catalyst for the next made the whole book just storm along. It is such a complete book I am not sure how this could have a sequel - but I can hope!" ~Reviewer
