Book Description

Megan Connors’s life is not going in the direction she thought it would. With her love life in the dumps, she doesn’t think it could get any worse until her long-time crush, Shane asks to move in. After all, he has no clue that she’s been in love with him for the past ten years. But fate has a way of turning things around.

As their relationship goes from “just friends” to lovers, life takes a turn for the unexpected. Shane isn’t the person that Megan once fell in love with all those years ago. Shane has a past; murder and drugs is a portion of what he’s been hiding and is only revealed once the FBI knocks on Megan’s door.

Secrets, tragedy, and deceit force Shane—and Megan—to make choices that will change their lives forever. Once Megan learns the truth, will she still want to be with Shane? Or will someone else be at the end of her broken road?

About the Author

Melissa grew up in Maryland by the Chesapeake Bay, where her favorite memories took place near the water. Not having the physical coordination for most sports and the tendency to trip over air, she gravitated to books. She was never seen without a book. With her imagination running wild, she began to write her own stories at the age of nine, with her first book about a pet-loving family and the adventures they had. As time passed and Melissa grew up, reading and writing always stayed with her, becoming her escape from everyday life. Melissa now lives near Washington, D.C. with her family, dog and a lot of fish. In between the chaos of laundry, chasing after her three children and trying to learn how to cook, Melissa finds her escape by feeding her addiction of reading and writing of love, suspense and sarcastic humor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting Thrill Ride of a Romance Novel! August 13, 2012
By J. N.
Format:Kindle Edition
The Broken Road starts as a typical romance novel. Girl loves boy, problems ensue, emotional dramatics... Well, thats where it stops being typical. This book takes an unexpected twist and leads you into a thrilling, page-turning ride that makes it very difficult to put down. You will want to read the rest of the series after the first book. I also liked that the main character is very relatable and I found the rest of the characters to be well developed, even if they were only minor. All in all, a good, entertaining read that will more than keep your attention, it will keep you riveted!

2.0 out of 5 stars Just One Bad Thing After Another December 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was a somewhat depressing story about a young girl who has loved only two men in her life and one more than the other. After breaking it off after three years with Tommy, Megan is back home working at her family's law firm. Her long time love, Shane, suddenly needs a place to stay and cannot stay at his girlfriend, Allison's place. Naturally, he turns to his long time friend Megan and she agrees, knowing how difficult it will be to live with the guy she is in love with. Of course, they finally get together, but he is called away at all hours of the day and night and after her house is vandalized, her mother's house is broken into and her policeman brother is shot in a drug bust, Megan is starting to think something might be up. Then her ex boyfriend and FBI agent Tommy tells her Shane is bad news but she defends him and throws Tommy out of her house. Just one bad thing after another happens.

***Spoiler?***
My main problem with this book is that we are told that Shane loves Megan but never see any evidence of him doing anything other than using her. He is not an honorable guy to begin with and his apathy towards Megan's love life over the years and his own flaunting of girls in front of her does not predispose one to believe that he has always loved her. This makes the book a lot less romantic and really just a book about a girl who makes bad choices when it comes to men. Honestly, Megan is just clueless (so are a lot of other characters if they didn't know Shane was dealing drugs) and purposely ignores her instincts. I found this frustrating and disappointing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't wait for the rest of the books August 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I love the fact that the main character of this book seems so real... unlike some series that rely on "inner goddesses", Megan seems like someone who would be one of my close girlfriends. She has depth. Shane is simply dreamy. And the twist leaves you itching for the next book. Like the other reviewers, I can't wait for book two!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed...2 Stars might be too generous October 21, 2012
By SGTX
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Read this book for a Book Club meeting, and I can't for the life of me figure out why this book was even selected. There were a number of issues with this book. First, it was very predictable. Another issue was the fact that I did not find Megan likable. She came across as weak and whiny. She was engaged to a successful, good-looking, polite guy, but she dumped him because she couldn't forget the homeless, overly tattooed, under-employed, criminally delinquent Shane? Not the kind of woman I can (or want) to relate. Finally, the book was filled with errors...tons of them! Not just one or two. I quit counting at two dozen. That sort of thing is a real distraction for me. Nothing like an author and editor who care so little about the quality of their product, or customer satisfaction, that they do a lousy job of ensuring correct grammar and proper word usage.

1.0 out of 5 stars Must read over the poor editing December 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The author has a pretty good start to a story but a weak ending will leave you frustrated. There are many typos, missing words and extra words.

3.0 out of 5 stars An author who will hit the big time ... January 31, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
... If she finds herself a good editor. There is so much I really enjoyed about this story of a somewhat bubble headed young woman who finds herself in extraordinary circumstances.

The last 1/2-1/3 of the book was really exceptional (if you ignore typos, unexpected and erroneous changes of tense, dangling deletions that no one remembered to delete ... all in all, truly dreadful, messy editing).

The pace in the last half was pell-mell and scary, it was hard to tell who was a good guy and who wasn't, and throughout the book, the author's depiction of both main and secondary characters was a masterful example of showing, not telling, layers of fascinating human beings. I was especially impressed with the deft handling of complex and conflicted hero. Nice work!

But, gosh, going to print full of errors that even a mediocre proofreader could have fixed, and a slow start that a good editor could have quickly reworked into a beginning to match the end ... It's too bad, that's all.

However! although I tend to quickly delete books from my Kindle that have far fewer errors and flaws than this one, the fact that I couldn't put it down in spite of my exasperation tells you just how good it was.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good read, ending  could have been better September 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Good read but the ending was sudden. Ending could have been stronger and more robust. Really hope there is a sequel, would like to read more about the characters and the next phase of their lives.
