Cinderella
Based on the version collected and published by the 17th-century author Charles Perrault, this classic fairy tale is matched with the artwork of Nicoletta Ceccoli. Perrault's Cinderella echoes the elegance and luxury of the French court of King Louis XIV. See more books by Sarah L. Thomson and Nicoletta Ceccoli

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 2-An introduction to poetry and personification that gives voice to the everyday objects found in a school. From the "Good Morning" welcome of the building to the shrill good-bye of "The School Bell," beginning readers will be captivated by the quirky personalities of things that normally receive little notice. This wacky world of rhyme brings to life a petrified pencil trapped in a desk, monkey bars, and a slide, among other items. Reed's zany artwork is a perfect complement to the humorous poetry.

From Kirkus Reviews

PLB 0-06-027940-0 Dakos's collection of 23 poems from the perspective of items found at school satisfies the I Can Read requirements of simplicity and word repetition, but may not lure beginning readers back for a second time. The material is uninspiring: The school's front door says, ``Keep me shut,/I have the flu,/Achooooooooo!/Achooooooooo!/Achooooooooo!/Achooooooooo!/Keep me shut,/I have the flu.'' A book sings ``Happy Birthday'' to a ruler, then sings ``Happy Unbirthday'' when the ruler says that it is not its birthday. Also appearing are a couple of clever itemsone on a kidnapped pencil and another on a comb pulling hazardous dutyalong with some typographic elements that amiably convey the idea that words are malleable; Reed's illustrations possess geniality and character, making some inanimate objects very personable. This is a great little book for introducing poetry throughout the curriculum. I especially like the illustrations. This is a level 2 book for grades 1st-3rd. My classroom has a bug theme, and this book helps me to reinforce the theme in several subject areas. My favorites are Ten Ants in a Classroom and Flying Around the Classroom. I also use the book with my ESE and ELL students as a motivational tool.

I personally did not care for the poems in this book. I thought some were goofy and nothing that would have children want to read again. More for babies to look at the pictures than school children.

My kids 11,9, and 6 really liked this book. We really enjoyed "Good Morning, Math Test, and Jack's Pencil." Very cute and inventive poems.
