I grew up listening to the author tell ghost stories...no matter how many times we were told the same story, the hair would stand up on my neck. The best part of Uncle Cleudis's stories was he would always promise to take us to a haunted house at the end of the week....all of us would load up in his car and you know what, some how he would always get lost trying to find the haunted house and we would end up at the ice cream shop instead. :) great memories build long lasting legacies .

An excellent book. I'm finding it hard to put down. MY wife who is from West Va. is finding the insights interesting as her father and grandfathers were miners as well. It's very well written and gives a great view into the people's lives during that time. Great job!

First you should know how beautifully written this story is. The tale is compelling and pulled me in from the start. The well drawn characters are endearing, infuriating, mysterious, and even comical. Picking up “The Burying Man” is like opening a window on another world, which surprised me. Although much of what is chronicled actually happened here in America around the time of the Great Depression, I had never read about it before and it was pretty surprising to me. But it wasn’t like a ‘history lesson’ because it was woven in and out of a wonderful story with very real characters and I found myself unable to put it down!
It’s such a joy to find a book so well written that it holds my attention with the plot line while at the same time painting such colorful pictures with mere words. I am recommending this to all my friends!

The Burying Man is a story full of characters that seem so real. You would almost believe that this was a real story being re-told. I would recommend The Burying Man to all of my friends and to anyone who loves to read a truely good book. I am so happy to have read it!
I wish I could give this book more than five stars!
