From the Inside Flap

From the arenas of professional sports to the boardrooms of major businesses, top performers dominate every field. How do they do it? Is it luck, circumstance, or are there traits and behaviors that propel the highest achievers to the top 1 percent?

Few people are better positioned to answer this question than Molly Fletcher. Dubbed by CNN "the female Jerry Maguire," Fletcher rose to the top of a tough, male-dominated field to become a leading sports agent with unique access to hundreds of successful athletes, coaches, and broadcasters in baseball, golf, basketball, and football. Whether at the contract negotiation table with a team's top brass or behind the scenes with her players, Fletcher knows what makes high achievers tick.

The Business of Being the Best draws on her conversations with legends like Arthur Blank, the founder of Home Depot and the owner of the Atlanta Falcons; John Smoltz, celebrated pitcher and winner of baseball's Cy Young Award; Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach; and basketball National Championship coach Tom Izzo. Their stories create an invaluable playbook, and Fletcher tells us exactly how anyone can put their strategies to work. Peak performers understand that everything is a negotiation and push the bottom line accordingly. Fletcher knows as well as anyone how to drive a hard bargain—she has managed sports contracts worth a cumulative $500 million—and the genuine trust and rapport of her method guarantees top-notch results in any kind of deal. Negotiation is just the beginning, and Fletcher demystifies a wide range of tactics of the top 1 percent, from effective personal branding to likeability, to giving back to your community.

No matter what you do, or why you do it, if you want to get better, The Business of Being the Best is the authoritative guide to help you win like a champion.

More About the Author

Nicknamed "the female Jerry Maguire" by CNN, Molly Fletcher spent nearly two decades recruiting the top athletes, coaches and media personalities in the game. Molly heads up her own business, MWF Enterprises, where she serves as President & CEO.

As one of the only female sports agents in the industry, Molly made a name for herself working with some of the top names in sports, including Tom Izzo, Ernie Johnson, Jr., Matt Kuchar, Doc Rivers, John Smoltz, Joe Theismann and hundreds more. She recruited and signed Major League Baseball stars, PGA and LPGA golfers, college and world championship coaches, and media personalities to her client list.

A popular keynote speaker, Molly applies lessons learned from her years of experience in the sports industry to the business world. She speaks to audiences around the country on topics related to leadership, relationship management, sales and business development, and client service. She also travels the country as a teambuilding facilitator, working with both Fortune 500 companies and collegiate and professional sports teams to build winning cultures by enhancing trust, transparency and team dynamics.

Molly is the author of two books, Your Dream Job Game Plan, a tactical guide to becoming your own career agent, and The Business of Being the Best, in which she extracts the common traits found in top performers. She is also the founder of the Betterment Institute, an online learning platform deployed by companies that hones relationship-based sales skills.

A trailblazer throughout her career, Molly has been honored with numerous awards, including Outstanding Alumni from Michigan State University, the 2010 w2wlink Ascendancy Award for businesswomen and the 2011 POW! This book is a must read- My co-worker recommended the book to put things in perspective. I was caught up in the rat race of corporate America and got lost on my path of life. This is a great map showing me what it takes and what I need to do to get back on track. I took out my highlighter and i am now focused on the books main points. I already feel more empowered in the workplace. I will pay it forward and pass this book on to someone i care about. 5 Stars!

If you're like me you've read dozens maybe hundreds of leadership books and business books and personal achievement books. Usually half way through you're done. Molly's book just gets better and better with each page. Midway through I was writing a list of who to give the book to. By then end it's become required reading for staff.

Then you read it again.

The Business of Being the Best is witty, smart, useful and best of all filled with real wisdom that immediately makes the reader go "Oh yea!". High WOW factor. Plus, Molly mixes it up with all her contacts and interactions and friends from the sports world (and I'm not even a sports guy).

Nowadays the edge up is by being the type of person others want to help succeed, Molly's written the "how to" book for the 21st Century. Buy 3 at a time - I did! (ps, 100% unbiased review, I've never met her).
