Fantastic,
This review is from: The Business (DVD)
If you're looking for low-brow, on-point humor about the Hollywood scene, this is just about the best you'll find. The Business starts with a great premise- a porn producer trying to go legitimate who converts to Judaism (adding a -stein to his last name) in his effort to produce a real independent film. Throw in hilarious characters (the crazy Japanese investor is the best of these) and you've got a great show- worth watching!

Often witty and funny look at the movie making biz,

Airing on IFC, The Business is an often witty and funny look at the movie making business; revolving around distributer and new Jew convert Vic Morgenstein (Rob deLeeuw) who is looking to shed his image of producing softcore smut. He brings in producer Julia Sullivan (co-executive producer and all around hottie Kathleen Robertson) to help gain him a more respectable reputation, which leads to the making of a movie from an eccentric indie darling director (Nicolas Wright). Adding to the ensuing chaotic hilarity is Vic's crazy Japanese investor (Nobuya Shimamoto), his whacked out PR guy (Trevor Hayes), and the former adult film star (Karen Cliche) up for the lead role. While yes, The Business is far from being a sophisticated or intellectual comedy, it is very funny from beginning to end, and everyone involved are simply great as well. Particularly good is Robertson, better known as eye-candy from Beverly Hills, 90210; who shines as the uber-stressed out Julia. All in all, The Business is definitely worth checking out, and it ranks as one of the funniest things to come out of IFC.

The Business is the hilarious backstory of getting one independent movie made. The production company is owned by a guy who's made his money doing Girls Gone Wild-esqe movies and now wants to be taken seriously. Each episode is better than the last with crazy Japanese investors, alcoholic producers, primadonna directors, idiotic male stars and a porno queen as the lead. Effing brilliant.

Low-budget, crude, offensive, and very, very funny. Go ahead and enjoy it but be careful recommending it.

Amazing Gem of a show,

This review is from: The Business (DVD)
I am so glad my friend showed me this little gem of a show it's truely hillarious in so many ways, a guy converting to judisim so he can be good in money and that his indie fim is successful is just epic in it's self and asking for laughs, the downfall however is I wish they would have more than two seasons . Regardless of that fact do not hesitate to watch this great show over a weekend you'll be hooked and have some great laughs, I highly recommend it. All the characters are loveable, a very funny look into there business words don't really describe it just watch it and amazon has the pilot free on here so enjoy a taste.

I thought this show was great. It was fun and clever... no cops, doctors or lawyers. It got better and better with each episode.

Jackie Woodman's ugly, obnoxious cousin....,
This review is from: The Business (DVD)
On IFC, there are 2 shows about the film business, this one and The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman. This one is the pits. It resorts to a lot of lame, shock, dirty sexual humour, and its characters are just overly nasty. Jackie Woodman has great wit and characters that are real. Even in Hollywood there is the occasional real person.Watch The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman instead. Skip this. |
