Editorial Reviews

Brian McNeill formed Battlefield Band in 1969 with Alan Reid. Since then he has spent most of his time playing music and, although best known for his work with the band, and as a songwriter and tunesmith, he is now making a name for himself as an author. This album features mostly self-penned material - songs, tunes, lilts and the two title tracks The Busker, written round the central character from his novel, and The Devils Only Daughter, which won Songsearch competition a few years ago and is a much admired and requested song, recorded here for the first time. Brian is ably assisted on some of the tracks by Cilla Fisher, Alan Reid, Dougie Pincock and Duncan MacGillivray. This album is a worthy successor to his first solo album Unstrung Hero.

Brian McNeill is a genius with a fiddle in his hands, and is truly amazing on many of the other instruments he picks up. His takes on traditional tunes here are truly moving. be sure to take a look at his own moving music, no gods features many amazing songs.
