Very poorly written and at times extremely tedious.
If you are looking to find out previously unknown facts about the original Byrds, forget it.
The group are hardly mentioned by name and whenever they are they are not shown in a good light.
Have to question why if they were such a bunch of unsavourary people did he continue to work for them for so long.
There are far more interesting books about the Byrds out there and far more interesting books about road managers as well, such as Road Mangler Delux by Phil Kaufman.
9 more volumes, no thank you

James "Jimmi" Seiter was the Byrds' road manager and "The Byrds - My Way - Volume 1" documents his first couple of years with the band (1966-67). I bought this e-book thinking there would be a lot of inside information about the band members - Jim (later Roger) McGuinn, David Crosby, Chris Hillman, and Michael Clarke (Gene Clark had already left by the time Seiter arrived). Instead, "The Byrds - My Way" is primarily about Seiter's struggles moving and setting up equipment from gig to gig. This was in the infancy of rock concerts and the Byrds were America's most popular band at the time. Today's bands have entire crews devoted to touring logistics but in 1966 Seiter was essentially on his own. There's a touch of bitterness in Seiter's words as he feels he has not been given enough credit by the band or its chroniclers for all he accomplished. The detail Seiter provides about the equipment and tours, including his sexual dalliances with groupies, is quite amazing after almost fifty years, but the writing is amateurish (Seiter desperately needed a ghost writer and professional editor) and the only personal information provided about the band is McGuinn was withdrawn, Crosby was argumentative, Hillman was sullen, and Clarke was a lousy drummer but the life of the party, but we already knew all that. Seiter promises nine more volumes recalling his further exploits as road manager for the Byrds, Flying Burrito Brothers, and other bands but I won't be taking this flyte again.

I purchased this e-book with great expectations but was very disappointed in the end result. I agree with one of the other reviewers of this book: this was a project in extreme need of a good editor. On the positive side, it was interesting to see the road manager's-eye view of the Byrds and their recording and concert adventures. On the negative side, there really wasn't all that much new information about the Byrds and it was also extremely uncomfortable for me as a reader when the author felt the need to complain about how he was, in his opinion, never given his due regarding how much he helped the Byrds. Also - and this may not be a negative for everyone but it WAS for me - I found it very uncomfortable and rather useless to have to read through all the various sexual exploits of the author and Byrds members regarding the various groupies while on the road. I already KNOW the Sixties was a wild time... personally, I don't want to have to wade through the dark side of it just to get to interesting things about the Byrds. The best I can do is give this two stars out of five. Not really recommended. Sorry.

I only read the samples of this book and am amazed that Jimmi gives McGuinn such a bad press. McGuinn not only allowed Seiter to become a "stage Byrd", but also gave him writing credit on Byrds' recordings which must have made their roadie a few dollars, surely!? I dont get it - and I wont be getting the books either...sorry, Jimmi...

This book is a personal, detailed account of the early days. I am looking forward to the rest of this journey. Loved it.
