Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I love baseball. As most baseball fans, I've dreamed of walking up to the plate with 2 outs in the bottom of the ninth and crushing the game-winning home run. I'll never know this feeling in real life, of course, but that's what video games are for.

Last time I looked for a batting cage in my town, I found that almost every one close to me has closed down, and the ones that are still open are an hour away. And they cost a ton of money. The batting cages near my park cost $3 for 25 balls. Given the way I hit, the math comes out to about $0.75 for each time I make contact.

And so when I heard that Konami was working on a batting cage simulation for the Wii, which used the advanced motion gaming features of the Wii MotionPlus, I was excited. Could this experience come close to a real batting cage?

I have to admit. I love this game. But I love it because I approached it with the right expectations.

I'll start off by saying this game is very, very technical and very, very realistic in its approach. If you're the type who wants to just close your eyes, swing your bat with all your might, and hit towering home runs, this is not the game for you at all. In fact, you will find the game incredibly frustrating. For that, your best bet is still good ol' Wii Sports.

The Cages is a batting cage simulator. Nothing more, nothing less. You can't play a real game of baseball, you can't pitch, field, or run. You just stand in a cage and let a pitching maching throw to you.

The pitching machine will throw you up to 20 different types of pitches (from fastballs to sliders to curveballs to knuckleballs and changeups). As pitches are thrown at you, their motion and trajectory are very realistic, or at realistic as it can be on a two-dimensional TV screen.

4.0 out of 5 stars BATTER UP! August 24, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This game is good for people like me who just want to swing the the bat. Its a lot of fun and it helps me take some steam off. My biggest problem is that I have to hold the B button while swinging. It causes me to hold the "bat" in an unnatural way.
Special tips in enjoying this product: Even though this game is Wii motion plus-compatable, its best to play it WITHOUT the motion-plus setting. The motion-plus is too realistic and makes way too difficult to hit, unless you are actually a baseball prospect. Another tip is to use a Wii bat, so that you can get the actual "feel" of taking your cuts.

3.0 out of 5 stars hit the ball December 26, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
My son just got this for Christmas. Yesterday he could not hit the ball if his life depended on it. Today, he took the motion detector off and he seems to hit it better. He played for about 15 min. Then changed to something different. He said all you do is hit the ball....then he laughed. It's like going to the batting cages, you just hit balls. So he likes it for hitting but would prefer a little more versatility to the batting component. He did say they do throw you curve balls. He has not tried that option yet.

1.0 out of 5 stars save your money July 17, 2010

Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
This game is billed as a training type game that simulates real batting. There is no way to hit the ball without incorrect swings, and as such, we've traded it in locally. It is inaccurate, and definitely does not help improve your swing...further, it is NOT fun, as you have no chance of hitting with a correct stride and swing. Not good at all.
