Editorial Reviews

In this heart-pounding, edge-of-your-seat thriller, veteran 911 operator Jordan (Academy Award® Winner Halle Berry, Monster’s Ball, 2001) takes a life-altering call from a teenage girl (Academy Award® nominee Abigail Breslin, Little Miss Sunshine, 2006) who has been kidnapped and thrown into the trunk of a madman’s car. But with the clock ticking, Jordan soon realizes she must confront a killer from her past to put an end to a serial killer’s haunting rampage. Also starring Morris Chestnut.

I wanted to take a moment and cast my own opinion on this film. There have been many mixed reviews over this movie and I believe the ones who slam this movie are ones who are more into "Special Effects" rather then the art of a "Story". I found this movie to be edgy and suspenseful. A great come back to Hollywood "Noir" films. The story keeps you on the edge of your seat hoping the serial killer is caught. The twist at the end was juicy and leaves you routing for the Vigilante style of the victims! GREAT movie! Fun, Entertaining and exactly the way a movie is suppose to be like. Screw the special effects, bring us more stories like this.......

This movie was amazing! I really don't understand the bad reviews. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time and had a great story line. Although the reasoning behind the abductor's obsessions are a little hazy. Something i'm sure will clear up after watching it a second time. The ending was mind blowing. I actually didn't see it coming and, unlike some other reviewers, it more than satisfied me. A totally refreshing ending to a thriller. Also, AMAZING cast. Great movie and worth your money.

THE CALL is a very enthralling film. THE CALL is captivating in many ways and that is the beauty of this interesting film. But most of all, I was glad to see that there was no cliche ending at the finale. This filmed reeked of modern Film Noir stylistically.

I must admit that when my 24 year old daughter wanted to have a family movie night and chose "The Call" that I was a bit hesitant. But that didn't last for long. This movie was suspenseful, exciting, and did not let you down at the end. I would definitely recommend it. Also, it made me realize that I could never work in a 911 call center and gave me an even greater appreciation for those that do.

The Call is by all means a decent thriller with several moments of "oh my god! They didn't just do that!" and it is easy to get drawn into. The film centers on Jordan Turner (Halle Berry), a 911 operator who is bothered when a momentary lapse of judgement on her part leads to the death of a teenager. cut to six months later and Jordan ends up on a call with a girl kidnapped from a mall, the girl, played by Abigail Breslin is being held in the truck of a moving car by a madman. The movie follows Jordan as she attempts to save the girls life. The movie is for the most part thrilling, exciting and manages to avoid a lot of the cliches other thrillers fall into. The performances are mostly solid. The problem occurs in the last 20 minuets of the movie when all hell breaks loose and t he movie suddenly turns from a suspense thriller into a action film with Jordan making dumb decisions. I won't spoil the ending, but let's just say that you'll find yourself screaming "this is so stupid" by the end....

Overall a decent movie, but it requires a massive suspension of disbelief.

This started as a good movie, worth the rental price for an evening relaxing at home. I was caught up in the story, and enjoying the thrill.... (spoiler alert)

Until the plot went off into stupidland. I nearly shut it off and walked away when Halle's character took off on her own to "solve the mystery". Too bad she forgot to bring Scooby and Shaggy and the rest of the gang, and instead chose to climb down into a dark and menacing underground bunker alone, despite having a phone with her that she could have used to call for help. I stuck with it, just to see how far they'd push the stupidity, and saw that it was pushed as far as it could go. *eyeroll*

What I like about the Call is that the concept is somewhat original by movie standards. In other words the idea of a 911 operator panicking and getting emotional over the troubling dilemma occurring on the other end concerning a helpless victim seems like such a simple idea for a storyline since some of the events in this movie are likely to occur every single day somewhere in the world, BUT as far as I know such a story hasn't actually been written into a movie before.

Halle Berry does a magnificent job in her role as the 911 operator too. She uses her intelligence to help an innocent girl escape from the trunk of a car. The logic being used here is quite impressive. The writers did a magnificent job here (unless Halle came up with this stuff!) Had I been the one shoved in the trunk of a car, I highly doubt the thought would've occurred to me to kick out one of the lights and wave my arm around begging for help. Or to take paint and spill it all over the road to help lead the police to the vehicle. Of course shouldn't the driver have been aware of all this noise the girl was making? Sure, he turned the radio up loud while it was happening but still, he'd unquestionably sense a strong thumping sound coming from the back due to all the racket. Overanalyzing again! Still I have to tip my hat to the logical thinking used here.
