5.0 out of 5 stars Nail-biting Thriller! October 16, 2011
By Lorrie
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Well I didn't bite my nails off like this review's title suggests but as I read, I did devour sunflower seeds at a frightening pace! It's been a long time since I've read such a page-turner. I was totally into Mike's life and world from page one. This book is packed with action and suspense, carrying you along and involving you in the incredible decisions made and consequences faced. Wonderful dialogue and imagery throughout.

Ms. Archer has obviously done her research too. I was very appreciative of the spiritual lessons put forth. Though we may not all (perhaps some) face the challenges that Mike did, it is a wake up call, reminding us that there is more going on than what's right in front of our own faces. Spiritual warfare is a real battle, one that we are all in!

When I wasn't reading this book, I found myself wondering what was going on in it! I didn't want it to end but couldn't keep from picking it up. I finished this book with a rare sense of satisfaction!

Great writing, fabulous story... don't miss it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Battle of Good vs Evil January 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Demons, fallen angels, zombies, and giant reptiles are just some to the the things Mike Malone has to deal with when he finds out his father who he thought was dead isn't human. It gets worse when he finds out his father intends for him to join him in a battle against God. While battling forces of evil, Mike Malone needs to come to terms about who he is and his relationship with his father. Then he needs to decide whose side he will risk eternity for. It's a lot to handle for a young accountant who thinks he's an ordinary guy.

I loved this novel about spiritual warfare and the quest to fight for good and against evil at all cost. I can't wait to read more of Archer's books.

5.0 out of 5 stars A spiritual dimension that most are unaware of... January 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
WOW! I have just finished reading this book and all I can say is that is was a real page turner, right to the very end. It successfully paints a picture of a spiritual dimension that most people are unaware of. The author has certainly done their homework concerning the Watchers, the Nephilim and demons, and made a such a tale that has underlying truths within it.

I was totally taken aback with how I felt with each main character, and the truth be told, I had no idea how the ending would be a complete surprise to me.

I know this book would be one that a younger generation would LOVE, as well as those who love fantasy and myth all throw in to the mix. I honestly think that this book would make a good movie someday as well.

Well worth the money, and I look forward to reading more from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Calling of Mike Malone October 12, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I rarely get the chance to read a Novel. OH MY, I just finished The Calling of Mike Malone and it was one of the best Christian Fictions I have ever read. Up there with This Present Darkness and The Shack. I highly recommend it to all my friends..I loved Mike Malone, he is such a great character. It was so full of action and I never new what was going to happen next. I would love to see a series or even a comic book of this Novel. I substitute teach for Middle School and High School and I can totally see my students reading this book. There is so much Biblical content in it, I was amazed. Children today, are not taught nearly enough about the spirit realm. This book does it in a vibrant way. Kudos to M.L. Archer. I cannot wait to read your next Novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazon ate my review. :/ April 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Usually, I would only write one review and if for some reason Amazon eats it, I throw my hands up and say forget it. But this book had just the right mix of wonderful to compel me to write a new one. Hope it is helpful.

Mike Malone has a great life...a great job as an accountant at a big-shot firm before finishing college...a great girlfriend that adores him...a great house he owns because his mom moved and gifted it to him...a great best friend that is so goofy he makes Mike shine even brighter.

Pretty close to perfect, right?

Not quite.

Mike lost his father when he was only 7 and this loss was so great he still feels the ache of it so many years later. Something his father said to him when he was young stuck with him like gooey marshmallows about Mike having a calling and he would know what that calling was on his 21st birthday. Mike also has visions that border on crazy and a magnetism effect on lonely women with stalkerish tendencies. Oh, yes, Mike also has always felt his father watching over him...from the grave? He soon finds out his father has been watching him, but it hasn't been from the grave at all.

In fact, Mike finds out his father didn't die, but instead faked his death and isn't even human. What is he? One of the Fallen. One of those cast from heaven, made to roam the Earth until Judgement Day, the damned. And that thing his father said when he was little takes on layers of angst in Mikes soul.

He is the offspring of the Fallen and by all accounts, Mike cannot enter the gates of Heaven upon his death. By proxy, Mike is damned. And damned by design of his father, called to become the antichrist.

But Mike has friends in high places and they are all rooting for Mike to take hold of his true calling.
