5.0 out of 5 stars Great book. Solid and sound introduction to meditation.
This is one of my all time favorite meditation books. As a long time meditator I keep coming back to this "little" book again and again. After having studied one on one with a classical indian mantra meditation teacher, and studied nei gong, taichi, yoga, mindfulness meditation, hypnotherapy etc., and also read many books by meditation authors such as Sally...

2.0 out of 5 stars The only meditation you'll have is when you try to read this
I was expecting something of a reasoned, well-thought-out approach to meditation; maybe a little science, and some discussion on the practical aspects involved. I'm a scientist, and while the overall topic interests me, the mumbo-jumbo clearly does not.

This is one of my all time favorite meditation books. As a long time meditator I keep coming back to this "little" book again and again. After having studied one on one with a classical indian mantra meditation teacher, and studied nei gong, taichi, yoga, mindfulness meditation, hypnotherapy etc., and also read many books by meditation authors such as Sally Kempton, Eric Harrison, Thich Nhat Hanh, and more, I find this book has much value. I have given away at least three copies. This book is worth it's weight in gold. It is obviously written from a place of solid experience and understanding. There are some negative reviews on this book so maybe this book isnt for them. To each his own. I have found the book to be very helpful and a great foundation for beginners.

Meditation leads to calm and this book is the calm path to meditation --
Everything you need to know in as few words as necessary --
I feel calmer already...

I was expecting something of a reasoned, well-thought-out approach to meditation; maybe a little science, and some discussion on the practical aspects involved. I'm a scientist, and while the overall topic interests me, the mumbo-jumbo clearly does not.

This book completely fails to deliver on the cover promise. The author essentially rants, interspersing mostly incoherent commentary on how 'great you'll feel with The Calm Technique' with poorly worded exercise metaphors and dull, rehashed insights on society.

Pros: Works great as a leveler for my coffee table.
Cons: As a book, far below average.

1.0 out of 5 stars rancid baloney, April 20, 2014
This review is from: The Calm Technique: Meditation without Magic or Mysticism (Hardcover)
an earlier review (right on the money) gave this bunk two whole stars
which suggests a level of generosity bordering on the mythic -
the book reads like something you might put together on a
bored afternoon - there is nothing of value here and nothing
novel and nothing helpful - the author (coming from advertising --
hmmm, there's a group you can trust) seems to have put no effort
whatsoever to even faking a decent book -
of course, there is one trusted method of stress reduction that actually
produces results namely, downsizing to eliminate life's inessentials --
and what better way to start than by lobbing this turkey into the trash
