Book Description

It’s the year 2438. Ten years ago, an ill-fated encounter on a mining world
triggered a devastating war between the United Nations Planetary Defense
and an alien organization known as the Drocain Royal Empire.

With no sign of a conclusion in sight, and with mankind’s very existence at
stake, the men and women of the UNPD have been forced into desperation.

When Corporal Alana Carmen stumbles upon an encrypted communications
device, she learns that there is more to the conflict than a simple war-for-worlds,
and to uncover the truth, she must make allies of those she once considered
enemies.

And now, the fate of the entire galaxy may rest on the shoulders of a single
alien warrior . . .

After being publicly shamed at his own Coming of Age ceremony, Kenon
Valinquint enrolls in the Drocain Royal Empire in the hope of one day
redeeming himself.

Unbeknownst to the young Drahkori warrior, this decision has set in motion
a staggering chain of events that could very well change the direction of the
war, and the known history of the universe, forever.

Editorial Reviews

Review

4**** "The Calypsis Project was a great read that I enjoyed for a variety of reasons. First,
the world building reminded me a bit of the Halo, universe, which I love. But the author
made the story feel unique and fresh. The aliens were imaginative and the military sci-fi
element was excellent."
- Nicholas Sansbury Smith, author of the bestselling Orbs series)

5***** "The Calypsis Project is an action-packed debut novel! If you like military sci-fi this
is a must read. The pace and flow immediately hook the reader, as the story line smoothly
transitions from one exciting situation to the next. Kudos to the author on releasing a novel
that takes a fresh approach with the genre."
- Kadin Seton, author of The Eye of the Draco: Darkfall)

5***** "The Calypsis Project is an absolute read for readers with an insatiable passion for
science fiction. Imaginative and creative in equal measure, Brittany's writing style really
shines throughout this sci-fi piece."
- Joannes Rhino, author of The Unseen Face)

5*****
"If you're looking for scifi action and adventure that just won't quit, The Calypsis
Project is the book for you!"
- Andromeda Bliss, author of Sasha's Story)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read December 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was a great sci-fi read and I really liked it from word one.

If you liked Ender’s Game, I think you’ll like this book too. Although the characters and plot was different, the writing style drew me in the same way as Ender’s Game did.

Earth has been traumatized and all but abandoned. The human race is clinging by a thread to exist.

Now the fate of all- an entire universe- rests on the shoulders of one young warrior who has the hope of finally redeeming himself -if he can pull this off. I won’t give you any spoilers but there is a lot at stake and also if he does pull this off there is the magnitude of possible consequences.

What I liked about this book was the characters and the smoothness of reading. The author really did a good job with the character development. I didn’t get confused as the story progressed instead I felt like I was right there alongside KenonValinquin and the other characters as the story unfolded.

I hope to see additional books by this author as I would definitely buy them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sci-Fi Read For Teenage Boys February 1, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I bought this book for my foster son who really enjoys military-oriented sci-fi novels. Basically anything that combines supernatural creatures and war. He's fascinated by those kinds of stories. In my house we have a mom/kid book club where I'll read books side by side my kids and we discuss them. I picked this one out for my 14 year old and I'm so happy I did.

The book focuses on two viewpoints- those of 'human soldiers' and 'alien warriors'. There isn't a difinite enemy in this book. There are both good and bad characters, but neither aliens nor humans are necessarily bad. In a way it kind of reminded me of the movie "Avatar"- except with a bit less romantic influence. The main character is an Alien named Kenon- who almost from the very beginning of the story will capture your admiration and keep it. He's a really unique character in the fact that he's NOT a human soldier in the war between aliens and humans- but rather an alien. So many sci-fi books that are written based on wars between two creatures tend to pick humans as the main characters and also the 'good guys'. This book didn't do that. It puts you in a place where you can empethize with both creatures. But both my son and I, right from the start, had a liking for Kenon.

Kenon is a character that brings forth a lot of the heroic aspects of what you expect from an action novel. He's strong-willed, courageous, brave, and independantly minded (which, lets face it, during war not many soldiers are thinking with their own ideas). The book creates a storyline where Kenon has to befriend the enemy (humans). I really love stories with this 'different species uniting' concept as a basis. Whenever I read books like that with my kids it opens up the discussion of racism and prejudices.

5.0 out of 5 stars What sci-fi supposed to be February 12, 2014
By Obi Wan
Format:Kindle Edition
While I am a huge fan of science fiction, I am not always one to hand out five-star reviews. In this case however the author did an excellent job of painting a brilliant visual with words. I could really see what she was riding as if I was watching it on TV or movie screen. Lots of action, strong characters, and differing viewpoints. It left me feeling like there's more of the story to tell. Possibly the author will surprise us with another book in the series. I would recommend for everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sci-fi novel February 6, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
What most impressed me about this book was Willows attention to detail, allowing me to see the book clearly in my head while reading.
The Calypsis Project is a sci-fi novel set in the distant future during a war. The story is told from two view points, that of the aliens and that of the humans, giving the reader a chance to empathize with both sides of the war instead of just one. Although there are many characters in this book, you understand and relate to Kenon the most through the story, an alien who was shamed on his home planet and is looking to redeem himself. My favorite character was Alana, as I like books that have strong heroines.
This book is titled as the first, so I assume there will be more to come, and I'm excited to continue the story. Some scenes in this book were graphic, as the book does follow soldiers into battle, but not so much that it is disturbing; rather, Willows shows us that war is harsh, and finding a way to end a war is always preferred. An entertaining read with lots of action.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Entertain Read!!! January 21, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
The Calypsis Project is an absolute read for readers with an insatiable passion for science fiction. It has a fast-paced narrative that would definitely keep you excited to the end. Imaginative and creative in equal measure, Brittany’s writing style really shines throughout this sci-fi piece. The growing cast of characters is also drawn exceptionally well and overall it just feels like such a nice read.

I also write a sci-fi book, but nothing like this. Mine is more about romantic – scifi kinda thing. But this one is a real futuristic entertainment. ‘The Calypsis Project’ is more about action than drama. It had me turning pages at warp speed and holding my breath wondering what was coming next. I sometimes paused a bit in the middle of the reading just to picture the scenes as if I was watching it in the big screen. Well, it would be perfect watching this in a movie theatre.
I consider myself lucky to be selected to read and review this book. I really am hoping there will be the sequel for this.
