Editorial Reviews

Review

"The story in these pages is of great encouragement and interest to Christians in our day. God calls Christians to serve Him in many vocations. This book provides a clear reminder of God's patient providence in directing His people into paths He has planned for them to walk. We are mindful of the growing church in China today. Here is an account of seven who were raised up to sow Gospel seed that bore fruit over time. To obey God in this manner, a number of them gave up great wealth or sure careers in England, and some had to overcome parental dismay at their decisions. Throughout, the reader is reminded of the lordship of Christ as one desires to be faithful in one's own callings." ~ Byron Snapp, Calvary Herald, The web magazine of Calvary Reformed Presbyterian Church

"It is not surprising that out of the whole-hearted devotion of these seven young men with their "intolerance of shoddy spirituality in themselves or in others, "there should emerge even beyond their huge labours in China, some extraordinary consequences" ~ Michael Cassidy

About the Author

The late John Pollock, an award-winning biographer, had a flair for telling a dramatic story. He used this talent to write many biographies including ones on D. L. Moody and Major General Sir Henry Havelock.

Hi, this book narrates the story of seven students who felt love for the souls in china and russia, they were called to be missionaries abroad... For me it was really worth reading it. The movement they started is now a worldwide student movement present in more than 150 country members.

Pollock is an excellent biographer. He makes nonfiction flow like fiction and inspires with his style and expression.

What this is: Another smoothly written entertaining, inspiring and informative pop history book (Christian History) by John Pollock. John Pollock died earlier this year (age 88) and for a sense of time - his life overlapped with all of the Cambridge Seven, who left for China in the 1880's. For evangelical Christians this book should be pretty exciting and for me it was awesome. It is really a follow up to Pollock's wonderful biography of D.L. Moody ("Moody"), who had a direct impact on the Seven.

What this is not: An exhaustive history book. It is also not really about China, but is focused on faith and commitment and taking Christianity seriously enough to give up the world for the Lord. It's less than 100 pages so you'll still have time to give up the world for the Lord . . .

This books details the amazing story of seven young men from Cambridge Univ. who dedicated their lives to mission service, beginning in China. Some of the story assumes that one knows about British culture, but the message is nonetheless excellent.
