Last year's edition was the first edition of this encyclopedia, and this is the second.

This is apparently a self-published book. I ordered my copy Thursday May 31, 2012. It was printed Saturday June 2 (It says so on the last page.), and it arrived today Wednesday June 6. Its physical quality is absolutely sufficient.

The book has chapters (among others) on:

Game Scores
The Grey Cups
Awards
Head Coaches
Drafts
Players
Stats Leaders

and a chapter devoted to the ORFU.

Right away I noticed a few things that are contrary to what I have read in the past. For example, it says that the Toronto Argonauts were founded in 1873, but I thought that they were founded in 1869. I guess further study will determine what is correct.

The competition to this book is the league's CFL Facts & Figures annual publication. What that book has that this does not offer is photos of all of the players and current team directories. For that reason, I would recommend buying CFL Facts & Figures most years.

In 2002 I found (and bought) at the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in Hamilton The 2001 Unofficial Canadian Football Encyclopedia by Ronald A. Ferroni, et al. My experience has been that having an encyclopedia on hand is valuable. For example, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers' radio analyst has for years been Mitch Zalnasky. Last year it occurred to me that although I could guess that he is a former player, I didn't really know who he is. So I looked him up in the encyclopedia and found out that he was a receiver for the Bombers in 1967 and 1968.

In sum, I would recommend this encyclopedia to every CFL fan who does not have last year's edition. Rather than buy each year's edition, I would annually update my library with CFL Facts & Figures to obtain the newest photos and team directories, and buy a new encyclopedia once every ten years.

This is a history of the CFL. It has stats strating from 1946 of all players and coaches. It's better than the first edition as it has even more info. If you are a fan of football stats and especially of the CFL this book is for you.
