Editorial Reviews

For nearly 20 years, the Green River Killer haunted Washington State with a series of shocking murders. Told through the eyes of a young runaway, the Lifetime Movie Network miniseries THE CAPTURE OF THE GREEN RIVER KILLER details how fate, bad luck and unwise choices led to Helen Hel Remus (Amy Davidson, 8 Simple Rules) encounter with the notorious serial killer. Leading the hunt for the murderer is Sheriff David Reichert (Tom Cavanagh, Ed), who becomes so entangled in the case that he's willing to risk his family and career to find justice for the slain girls. Surprisingly, it's a meeting with convicted serial killer Ted Bundy (James Marsters, Buffy The Vampire Slayer) that may help Reichert finally find his man, but bringing him to justice will be anything but easy.

This incredible true-crime tale is based on the book Chasing the Devil: My Twenty-Year Quest to Capture the Green River Killer by Sheriff David Reichert.

This is by far one of the best lifetime movies I've ever seen...the story is told from so many perspectives you feel as if you've lived through this 20 year tragedy..and witnessed it through the eyes of the law, the victims, and ultimately the killer..well worth the time to catch this movie now on TV before its March release on DVD...this could have easily been a theatrical release its that good.

I have watched this movie several times. I have enjoyed it that much. The only thing is I'm a stickler for details and while this movie spanned over a 19-year period, the actors are not age-progressed. Reichert was 31 when he started investigating the murders and 50 when Ridgway was finally arrested. I just think that age-progressing the actors would have helped show just how long it took to catch Ridgway but then again, I realize that this was a made-for-TV movie and there were budget constraints. Also, the character who plays Ridgway just didn't seem a good fit to me. His hair is too long and bushy and his mustache too full. He looks more threatening than Ridgway actually does. I also noticed that some of the victims and suspects were given pseudonyms. I can understand that some families may not have wanted their loved one's name mentioned but I really don't understand that reasoning since you can easily go on the internet and find their actual names. Some reviewers have stated that they did not like the story being told through the eyes of a fictitious victim but I think this humanizes the victims more--to show that they were girls with families and lives and not just a name and statistic on a list. And just an added FYI for anyone who reads my review--since this movie was made (2008), another victim's skull was found and identified in December, 2010, and Ridgway had to plead guilty and be sentenced for a 49th murder in 2011.

I completely agree with Kim! Every aspect from the task force to the families involved intrigued me as well as created quite a few tears, as well as small victories until finally wirh all the law enforcement involved, showed me and taught me what hard work and perseverence can acomplish! Yes, this would have made it to the Motion Pictures and an Academy Awards nomation(s). I cannot wait until I finally own this fantastically written screenplay. Mr. Tom Cavanaugh, you are to be applauded for your role, which hit me to the core of my body and soul I actually thought this sick and demented killer would never be arrested for I was these women's age when this all started and watched it played out in the media. This DVD is well worth owning.

I purchased this video to watch with my aunt and cousin. It was delivered so quickly and did not disappoint. The story was acted is bone-chilling accuracy, and Amy Davidson gave a truly outstanding performance as the victim/narrator.

The other reviewers weren't wrong here. I saw this movie a couple of nights ago and it was the most in depth study of all the hard work and perseverance it took to catch this psychotic maniac who was also a coward killing girls as young as 15. I think people should watch movies like this even if they are adverse to violence to see what kind of sick demented people there are in the world. If they did they would probably take more precautions to make sure they and their loved ones are more secure. The acting in this movie is excellent and the side perspective from one of the victims makes it feel more like it is happening to you. This movie will definitely make you appreciate the hard work our law enforcement officers put in to catch these people. Outstanding!!!

This movie may be long but very worth watching. I am taking Criminal Justice in school and this movie is well talked about in many classes. The acting is superb and the movie goes into great detail on how they caught
Gary Ridgeway. This is one of my favorite all time movies.

This is a very slow moving movie and does not provide the stereotypical gore associated with serial killer flicks. It is easy to see how some people would get bored and trash this movie; however, the development of the victims' story in the character of Helen sets this movie apart. This movie deeply disturbed me because I developed empathy for the character Helen. She represented all of the Green River Killer's victims; down on their luck girls who got into the wrong pickup truck. At the time of the murders many people had the attitude, "who cares, they are just prostitutes". Helen's story showed that the victims were real people with hopes and dreams. The plot revolving around the detective (that guy who played ED on that TV show with Julie Bowen and J.D's brother on Scrubs)was kind of mediocre. That being said, the plot involving Helen makes this movie unique and worth watching. Don't buy it, just watch it on Lifetime when its on once a month.

This was a riveting movie. I thought it was a little too long, but this guy killed so many and it took so long for his capture, that it had to be long. If you like murder mysteries, you will like this movie. Also, as far as I know it is accurate and true. The movie was not gory, but managed to be scary anyway. I felt as frustrated as the detective at how this guy kept escaping capture.
