From the title alone, I knew I was probably going to like this one, but once I started reading, it was love. I loved the romance, loved the hot sex, loved the sweet and sexy interaction between h/H, and loved this hero most of all. I have a major thing for alpha male heroes, especially those heroes like Colt Waggoner. He's gruff and a little surly, rough-edged and prickly with a bit of a chip on his shoulder from being known around town as one of those "white trash Waggoners." Colt's got that military edge due to being an ex-Marine, and he's also protective and possessive. I loved that about him, that not only is he a tough alpha, he's a sweet guy underneath all the scowls. Just my type.

Yes, he does something jerky at the beginning of the story, but really, would you mind if he lied to you and tricked you into being 'stranded' with him all alone in the woods? Me neither. That is one of my favorite things to read in romance, when the h/H are kind of forced to spend time together, relying on each other, seeking warmth from each other, talking and getting to know each other under different circumstances. And, after thinking of the heroine, Beth Ann, as perfect and golden and pretty much untouchable, Colt loved having Ms. Prim and Proper under his control. Except his trick leads not to revenge and to showing the mayor's daughter a lesson; it leads to seeing Beth Ann as a real person, someone sexy and fun to be around.

Beth Ann has finally cut her cheating azzhat fiance loose, and now she's ready to live her life on her terms. And part of that is doing things that no one would think perfectly nice Beth Ann would do, like having a one-night stand, some no-strings-attached sex. And who better to get down and dirty with than Colt?

Beth Ann is DONE with her cheating, whiny fiancé. But her small town of Bluebonnet has seen this happen before and because Beth Ann didn't tell everyone the truth about Allan and his cheating ways, they're all convinced that Beth Ann will forgive him once again, they'll reconcile and all will be right with the town's golden couple. But Beth Ann is having none of that. She's building up her own business and sink or swim she's going to do it all on her own. However, one Friday night spent trying to locate her troublesome younger sister, who's at a party in the woods, leads her right into Colt. They're stranded in the woods (slight lie from Colt) during a storm through the weekend and get very up close and personal.

Beth Ann and Colt have never been friends. Beth Ann came from a wealthy family on the right side of the tracks while Colt had to endure the label "white trash Waggoner" growing up. He lived with his brothers and dad in a double wide that needs to be condemned. He escaped, enlisting as soon as he graduated, but a knee injury sent him home and now he's running wilderness/survival classes with his friends Grant and Dane. What Colt knew about Beth Ann came from just seeing her around town and getting her glares or barely a glance from her. She's different now, away from Allan, she's trying to be her own person, doing things she wants to do and she wants to flirt with Colt and that leads to thoughts of a one night stand.

Colt and Beth Ann's sexy weekend in the woods leads into a tentative relationship. The small town residents all have their own opinions, all bad toward Colt and his "lower" status. I really wish Beth Ann would have stood up for him in front of these people. She doesn't buy into their talk, but she also doesn't stick up for her man either.

The Care and Feeding of an Alpha Male is Book 2 in Jessica Clare's most recent series. It's a fabulous read, with engaging dialogue, sexy but realistic characters and sizzling hot sex scenes.

I love the evolution of the characters. At the start, Beth Ann comes across as a little spoiled, a little bit immature. But as you get to know her, she morphs into an intelligent, caring and funny woman who just wants everyone to see her for who she really is: a strong, capable woman who knows her own mind. Colt, in the beginning, comes across as a total jerk. He's rude, inconsiderate and has a really low opinion of Beth Ann, someone he really doesn't know all that well. But as he gets to know Beth Ann, the respect, love and admiration he grows for her is obvious to see. I love how organic the shift is between Beth Ann and Colt. Though it happens quite early in the book, it doesn't seem forced and both the characters grow within the relationship over time, making what is essentially a short period of time, seem like a more realistic experience.

The other characters in the book are vivid and hillarious. The interaction and dialogue within the book is truly fantastic and really comes across as credible and realistic. The story flows well and is very well paced.

I definitely recommend reading Jessica Clare's The Girl's Guide to (Man)Hunting, which is the first book in this series. It's just as tantalising as The Care and Feeding of an Alpha Male.

Overall, I recommend this book for anyone who is look for a fabulous and saucy romance book, with hillarious and awesome dialogue, fantastic and realistic characters, and plenty of chemistry and smokin' sex scenes.
