Book Description

Everyone has a DJ or radio station he or she especially enjoys. Not everyone knows what goes on behind the microphone. And once you do, you may never listen to radio the same way.

Corey Deitz has done radio shows in Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus, Richmond, Norfolk, St. Louis, Toledo, Little Rock and other cities. He's seen the business from top to bottom.

Through his humorous and casual writing style in The Cash Cage, you'll meet an army of wanderers who spin tunes, give the time and temp, take the requests and when the pressure is on are easily discarded by a cutthroat business that disguises itself as your favorite song.

When an employer reaches into his grab bag of professionals, he never know how big of an ego or what kind of pathology will accompany the next worker.

The Cash Cage is a captivating trip through an exciting medium held together by an odd lot of gypsies who move from city-city in an incessant struggle for ratings, income, and acceptance.

5.0 out of 5 stars For anyone struggling to break into the business October 30, 2004
Format:Paperback
Corey Deitz drew upon his more than 25-year career as a radio host veteran in such major markets as Chicago, St. Louis, Cleveland, and others, to write a candidly informative expose of what happens "back stage" in the world of talk radio. A first-person view of the ups, downs, backstabbing, money-jockeying, desertions, loneliness and more in an often cutthroat business world, The Cash Cage is not only an engrossing personal story, but also a no-holds-barred "how-to" guide for anyone struggling to break into the business, curious individuals seeking to learn the pitfalls of the trade, and in fact anyone determined to grapple with adversity. Vernacular plain-terms language distinguishes this highly readable account that actively resists being put down for any reason.

2.0 out of 5 stars Music? Personality? March 11, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was hoping that this would really lead to some interesting or amusing anecdotes about the music business, but this reads like the nightly news. And not very good news at that. Going on an on about some trivial piece of business leads me think this author was not interested in a second draft. It certainly could not be worse than the final product.

Since I know the author it made it more interesting. Having lived the life in radio also made it a walk through time and memories.

5.0 out of 5 stars just great May 9, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
From K's husband. I have read this book at least three times. It is funny, interesting, and most of all inspiring. It made me want to read his others, which I have also enjoyed. I'm nowhere close to the radio business, but I can certainly relate to what he's been through in my line of work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Read September 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Radio people will really relate to this book. Non-radio people will appreciate the nomadic life and aggravation of the business. I am not sure if this will be a real page-turner for non-radio people, but I couldn't put it down once I started reading.
