I was a very happy (and stuffed) after Matt's first book in the series, The Man Cave Cookbook, so I had to grab this one as soon as I could. As Englishman, I'm aware of Mardi Gras, but haven't yet to experience the genuine New Orleans festivities. This book lets you recreate the debauchery in your home, anytime of the year! I love spicy food, and this book has it in spades - easy to prepare (for the less patient among us) incredibly tasty side dishes and main courses, with a sprinkling of desserts for the greedy ones. As with the first book, you need booze - this time you can follow the cocktail recipes included. You'll also learn the history and true meaning of Mardi Gras, where to find soundtrack, decorations and costumes for your party.

This book is the perfect party package!

The Man Cave Mardi Gras Cookbook: More Than 50 Awesome Mardi Gras Recipes is the latest from Matt Thompson, author of the Mancave series of Kindle cookbooks. Matt has gathered together a very nice selection of recipes specifically from New Orleans and the surrounding area that will allow almost anyone to throw a Mardi Gras party at almost the drop of a pin. BTW, today is Mardi Gras, at least for those who do not have to work tomorrow. If you are not among them, then just skip the extensive section of Mardi Gras beverages, everything from Hurricane Punch to traditional Mint Juleps, with a whole lot in between.

Matt does sometimes (not all or even most) use a mix or canned product rather than one made from scratch, but not so often as to become assembly rather than cooking. I am particularly enamored of his recipe for Muffuletta Dip - various olives, pepperoncini, a couple of kinds of cheese and some fresh veg chopped small, marinated overnight and served up with crostini. Matt says you can store leftovers for about 5 days, but I wouldn't have any leftovers of this one - at least not past breakfast the day after.

The author has done a very good job with the formatting. I particularly liked that he thought to include an individual link to each and every recipe as part of the Table of Contents and was thoughtful enough to place a link back to the Table of Contents following each recipe. Now, if he had only thought to make that Table of Contents show up in the Kindle navigation menu I would be a very happy camper!

You'll want to add this one to your shelf.

Having lived in New Orleans for two years, I can tell you that this book is "fit for a king!" I remember the King cake well that appeared in our office when it was Mardi Gras season. Then you were served a tasty slice of King cake and the moment you bit into a little plastic baby, you knew instantly that it was now your turn to bring the cake! It was FUN! And that is what this great book is all about. No matter what your taste for drink, food or fun, this great resource has you covered. Since I have a sweet tooth, I went straight for the dessert and my eyes popped wide open at the recipe for Easy Peanut Butter Fudge. And there's LOTS more... You'll love this book!

You won't be disappointed with this book. Everything from the best how to plan your event with the Party Guide to cocktails (Ramos Gin Fizz my fav!) to finger food, main dishes, sides and desserts. This is the real deal - all the recipes are keepers - love the concept, the formatting and all the extra tips.

This is a really great book for anyone that is into Mardi Gras. First of all, I appreciate the fact that Matt included a few facts and nuggets outside of the delicious recipes featured in the book. There is an about Mardi Gras section, a Man Cave Mardi Gras music guide and there is even a glossary. It really shows that this book wasn't just thrown together and it speaks directly to the quality of the book.

With all that being said, the recipes in this book are amazing and most are really easy to prepare. I have always been afraid to make gumbo because I have heard that is to SO difficult to make. Well, the Big Easy Gumbo recipe seems pretty simple so I am definitely going to give that one a shot.

Highly recommended cookbook!

The goal of this book was to share fabulous recipes that are easy, fast and tasty and this cookbook over delivers! It contains recipes for cocktails, soups, main dishes, side dishes and desserts. Everything you need for a fun and delicious mardi gras party!

In addition to great recipes, this book is also entertaining -- Matt is really funny, making this book a fun read. Matt even supplies information on what to wear to Mardi Gras! But of course it is the recipes that really stand out. The recipes are clearly written and easy to make. I love the gumbo and the slow cooker bananas foster recipes! This is a fun book with great recipes and will definitely be a cookbook that I refer to throughout the year.

Just grabbed this... I looked at the Table of Contents and there were too many interesting recipes... I just HAD to have it! LOL

There is no Man Cave in my life, but I still LOVE this, and I discovered a new internet radio station as well. Thanks, Matt!

We have Muffuletta a couple of times a summer, so the Mini Muffulettas AND the Muffuletta Dip both caught my eye. We WILL be trying out the Creole Shrimp Deviled Eggs this summer (we just signed up for a dozen free range eggs per week with a small local farmer, so we anticipate a LOT of deviled eggs. *VeryBigGrin*)

I am also planning on the Crab Bisque, Hot Crawfish Dip -- actually, ALL of the crawfish recipes are looking good -- as well as the French Quarter Shrimp Fettuccini.

J does the cooking here, so rest assured, I plan to wave this in his face. I am looking forward to all of these delicious dishes this summer!
