Socrates said that a life unexamined was not worth living, but sometimes life is going so well that you could forgive one for just going with the flow. But life will catch up with you in time, as it did for Rich Robinson. Before he was 25, he had fame as the guitar player for the Black Crowes, fortune, a beautiful wife and home; seemingly, he had it all. But in the blink of an eye, much of it ... Editorial Reviews

On the eve of the release of his third solo album, Rich Robinson, best known as the guitarist, songwriter, and founder of The Black Crowes, stands ready to complete the solo artist evolution that he began ten years earlier. The Ceaseless Sight is an album that represents the full maturation of Rich as a songwriter, vocalist, and solo artist. The album finds Robinson stepping solidly into his own as a solo artist as he adds confident vocalist and lyricist to his accomplished musical resume.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent record! June 5, 2014
By Ian
Format:Audio CD
Rich Robinson's third solo effort is easily his best, which is a considerable feat given the quality of his previous LP. The songs are great, the guitars are fierce and the songs are lush and vibrant. Don't hesitate one moment to buy this record. It's phenomenal.

With each release Rich grows and expands on a great career, and this record is the high water mark so far. I am a huge Crowes fan and have loved each of Rich's solo efforts. Paper was a fantastic album, and Through a Crooked Sun was even better. The Ceaseless Sight is an incomparable experience though. Everything from the music, artwork and packaging deliver a great experience at every turn. ‘I Know You’ is a killer opening track; ‘One Road Hill’ is a beautiful song that will stick with you. I recommend buying on vinyl if you are a fan of art work or the format. At the price you get two LPs, a CD of the record not just a download code. The vinyl’s themselves are unique to each copy through the splatter process used, so each one is a unique piece of art. Rich has managed to push forward in music while honoring the past and making meaningful art.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic album! June 4, 2014
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
This is a great record! The songs are more refined / developed from his last record (last one was great too). His guitar layers are beautiful with great tone. The organ and piano are fantastic as well. Rich's voice sounds great too!

5.0 out of 5 stars While I have enjoyed all 3 Rich Robinson solo albums August 20, 2014
Format:Audio CD
While I have enjoyed all 3 Rich Robinson solo albums, I connected to this one the most of the 3 albums. On the previous albums, it seemed that Rich may have been holding back some of his material for Black Crowes albums. With the Robinson brothers at an impasse on the type of new material to be on a new Black Crowes album (according to Rich, Chris wants free form and Rich likes a tidier approach to studio recordings), Rich has apparently unleashed his best material on this album. This albums has a much more mid-timeline Black Crowes sound. "Inside", for instance, sounds like it could have fit nicely on the Amorica or 3 Snakes album. Rich sounds much more confident in his voice on this album.

While I am bummed that The Black Crowes are on ice, the hiatus has lead to 2 great albums (The Ceaseless Sight, Phosphorescent Harvest) so far in 2014 and another on the way (Trigger Hippy) from its members.

5.0 out of 5 stars Obviously, this album is excellent. September 3, 2014
Format:Audio CD
The day Rich Robinson releases an album that's not worth 5 stars will be a very surprising day. He really is one of the best songwriters out there. This album is incredibly balanced between the songwriting, the guitars, and the vocals. The background vocals in particular on this album really stand out and add wonderfully to the overall texture of the songs. The lyrics strike me as more honest and intimate than on his previous release. Rich Robinson continues to grow and evolve as an artist, and it's a wonderful thing to take in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ceaseless Delight July 26, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
One the most under the radar and underrated musical artists of our times. This coming from a fan of the Beatles, Stones, The Who, Phish, Dylan, Jeff Beck, Clapton, Pink Floyd, Ry Cooder, etc. for sake of reference. By the way, Robinson is phenomenal live but do not tell anybody-small audiences at small clubs are consistently treated to big time performances by this artist.

Ceaseless Sight like most great albums impresses on first hearing and gets better with each subsequent listening. Robinson's song writing provides a myriad of interesting multi-layered rockers, soulful blues, psychedelic laced pieces and beautiful melodies. Marco Benevento's tremendous keyboard playing is the perfect complement to Robinson's guitar work. Each song on the album stands on its own.

If you wisely purchase this masterpiece and enjoy it, then certainly do not deprive yourself the listening pleasure provided by Robinson's first two solo projects which are also tremendous works: Paper and Through the Crooked Sun.

Just a short personal anecdote: on the morning of a day I had a ticket to see Robinson during his current tour, I had facial skin cancer outpatient surgery. The surgeon advised that I must wear a large pressure bandage for the next 24 hours. Thoughts of passing on the show were merely fleeting. Despite wearing a bandage that covered virtually half my face, which made Jack Nicholson's Chinatown character appear as though he merely was wearing a small band aid on his nose,

I attended the concert. First row no less. The performance far outweighed personal embarrassment. The Yardbirds were a strong backing act. A majority of the audience shamefully then left, leaving only a small contingent of folks.
