Outside of religious orders, who are the people that choose to practice celibacy and why? Approaching celibacy as a practical discipline for those on a spiritual search, The Celibate Seeker surveys a number of ordinary men and women to discover the benefits they derive and their advice to others. Discover how celibacy affects intuition and energy, how it reveals the habits of our mind, and is a natural state for anyone involved in intense effort. Hear from those currently practicing, former practitioners, and those who have struggled mightily with what Gandhi called "the highest goal."

The unique value of this book is that fellow seekers have recorded the benefits they received from celibacy, and offer advice from their experience, for the person considering celibacy. The book is not a statistical study of masses of people, rather through the revealing, personal experiences of a few seekers earnest in their pursuit of "the highest goal", the reader is encouraged to try celibacy for him/herself.
The book is a survey about positive effects of observing celibacy. It's concise and to the point, outlining extra energy, mental clarity, IQ, brain, stamina which is observed when you say no to sex/masturbation/ejaculation. Minimal connection to spiritual/eastern style philosophies, which is perfect. No statistics, e.g. percent of responders etc and all that pseudo-science fluff. Just asking people about celibacy and (indirectly) motivating them to try harder.
Excellent pro-celibacy motivational material. More books like these are needed.
This book (which is very short) is probably best geared toward men. The description of the author having surveyed "a number of ordinary men and women" is misleading. There was one very short paragraph from one woman and a couple more paragraphs about the menstrual cycle of women. While I accept and appreciate that the words of the many men surveyed may not be views shared by the author, the sexist overtone of the book was bothersome, and I am generally not one to be too bothered by those things. I can absolutely see the value of this book for men on or considering starting on a path of celibacy. Though I will say that, even so, it is largely expressed in this book that celibacy should only be for a set period of time and not for a lifetime. Likely not for those choosing (or considering choosing) celibacy as an on-going spiritual practice.
