Book Description

Domination. Desire. Destiny.

He rules a future in which women are helpless, obedient, and always willing. She comes from a past in which a woman's strength, brains, and courage are unquestioned. The challenge between them is timeless.

Secret Service agent Tessa Camen took a bullet meant for the president. She regains consciousness three hundred years in the future on a spaceship, naked in the arms of Kahn, a fierce warlord from the planet Rystan. He's been expecting her. Tessa was whisked forward in time because her fighting abilities include a psychic talent like none other. Only she can defeat an enemy who threatens Earth. The fate of her home hangs in the balance. Once again, she's called on to serve and protect her nation.

In Kahn's world, women are meant to be ruled but also protected. He can seduce Tessa, but can he own her heart and mind? Can he put aside his beliefs about women to help her train for a brutal intergalactic test, The Challenge? If she loses, so does Earth.

Tessa and Kahn are caught in a war of wills set in a future where survival is a skill, power is an aphrodisiac, and love is a challenge that could destroy everything they cherish.

Review

Susan Kearney is the queen of futuristic romance--Sandra Hill New York Times best selling author

From the Author

THE CHALLENGE is the first book in the Rystani Warrior series. This is a full-length, 100,000+ word/377+ page novel. (The current number of pages listed are for a large Trade Size book)

This book is a Futuristic Romance, a Space Opera with Paranormal Elements.

This is the first book I ever wrote and my 23rd published.THE CHALLENGE is one of my all-time favorite stories. It's by far out sold my other books and I'm excited Belle Books has made it available in e-book.  But it's not for everyone.  Yes, it's controversial. Most romance readers love it--but a few are offended by it.  So I'm issuing a warning in big bold letters. :)

       WARNING
!
  • Hot sex is in this book
  • The sex is not politically correct in this book.

THE DARE
, THE ULTIMATUM and THE QUEST books 2,3, and 4 in the Rystani series are available now.

Best,
Susan Kearney

5.0 out of 5 stars The CHALLENGE ROCKS May 23, 2013
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Seriously, I loved this book. But if you expect a man from another planet to have politically correct sex like a twenty first centry liberated man from Earth then this book is NOT for you. Sheesh. Kahn is from another planet. His backgound and culture and lifestyle is very different. That is the point of futuristics--to imagine other times, and places and societies. And Kearney does a marvelous job with motivating her characters.

Are these people perfect? No. Do they always act the we people from Earth think they should act? Of course not. Tha's the fun of the book. Breathe people. Reading the Challenge was a guilty pleasure. I like to watch westerns, however I wouldn't want to cross the desert in a covered wagon. I like to read about discovering treasure in jungles, bu I don't want to go there. And yes, I enjoy reading about men that I wouldn't want to date. never mind marry. Obviously other people do too because I seriously doubt many of us would really want to be with a real vampire.

The Challenge is a fabulous adventure story. Kahn's family seemed "different" but real. I's so glad I read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sexy SF February 12, 2005
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I couldn't put the book down. The sex sizzled. I loved watching the tough, sexy hero fall in love with Tessa. The science fiction worlds were interesting and well thought out; the twists and turns in the plot kept me up all night. I especially liked that Tessa was strong and feminine and how she used her brains to tame a man she loved. Tessa didn't hold back. And neither did Kahn, the hero. I was sorry to see the book end and can't wait for THE DARE. If you like wild and edgy, this book is for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good sci-fi love story! February 28, 2005
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Interesting premise, (hard to come up with new things for a Sci-Fi) well written with good plotting but not a "thinly disguised rape book". Yes this book borders on the erotica, but Tessa is willing all the way. But this book is not about sex, but about love. The love story develops as the story progresses (as it should). I had a hard time putting this one down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding! March 9, 2005
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Secret Service agent Tessa Camen has studied a variety of martial arts during her life. To protect the president she uses her own body as a shield and took the assassin's bullet.

Tessa woke up nude, in the arms of a handsome man named Kahn. He tells her that she has been brought forward through time over three hundred years. Earth is so polluted that it is brown instead of blue. Earth plans to join the Galactic Federation who will help the planet clean itself. However, to join the Federation, Earth must choose one person to complete "the Challenge". If the chosen one wins, Earth wins. If the chosen one loses, Earth may not join or receive help. Tessa IS the Chosen One. Of course, Tessa believes none of it. But Kahn can prove it all.

Kahn is from the planet Rystan. To seal Rystan as a full member of the Federation he must train Tessa to use the psi-abilities. He has only a few weeks in which to do it. At the same time, his nemesis, an Endekian named Jypeg, is out to kill them both.

***** I have not read a book this great in a long time! The author created a brave hero and heroine, both warriors with talent, skill, and honor, added in a sentient computer that any "Star Trek" or "Star Wars" fan will envy, and pit them against overwhelming odds. The outcome is an action packed space adventure that readers will not EVER forget! I can hardly wait for Susan Kearney's next release to come out. ("The Dare" is due for release June 2005.) In a single word, "WOW!" *****

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating Characters May 24, 2013
By craig
Format:Mass Market Paperback
When Tessa is abducted by an alien and forced to take The Challenge, I felt sorry for her. Especially when she has to put up with Kahn. But Tessa has a way of making the world see things her way. Her strength is how she adapts and manipulates the Rystani men. The book was a great way to start off the series and I will read all 4 of the Rystani books. This series is destined to garner Ms. Kearney new fans.

2.0 out of 5 stars The Challenge June 9, 2013
By Vanessa
Format:Kindle Edition
I wish books would come with a virgin inside warning. This is one of the reasons I do not read historicals, young adult, or new adult. Readers first meet Tessa in present day and she is the special agent in charge of guarding the president. The prologue is action packed with an assassination attempt and Tessa doing everything in her power to protect the president. I'm excited at this point. Readers are taken forward into the future where Tessa is awakened to be told she has been selected as the Earth candidate for the Challenge. A badass secret service agent who is picked to go forward into the future to for all intents and purposes save the rapidly decaying Earth oh this sounds awesome. Keep reading to see where it went way wrong for me.

Kahn is the Rystani who is selected to prepare Tessa for the Challenge. He is also participating in his home planet's second portion of their Challenge. This all still seems like a fascinating concept to me. Kahn is a bit disappointed by the fact that he must prepare a female for this, especially one who did not volunteer for the Challenge. He is a sexy alpha male, large and in charge. He is also a complete neanderthal in his attitudes towards women. I tried to cut him some slack on this. It is the norm for his people. He just made it too difficult to like him as a romantic hero

The concept of the suit and all it could do had many fascinating possibilities. The fact that the suit is used to provoke Tessa into using her unknown psi abilities in the manner that it was for the length of time that it was ruined this book for me. It was hard to wrap my mind around a futuristic world that is this technologically advanced to use sexual frustration as a means to the end that this tale was headed to.
