In personable prose, nutrition expert and prolific author Magee devotes one chapter to each of the seven most common menopausal symptoms—hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, decreased libido, moodiness, memory loss, weight gain, low bone density—offering practical advice and over 125 recipes for symptom relief sans hormone replacement therapy. Despite her predictable lifestyle tips (reduce the stress in your life; keep your bedroom cool to avoid night sweats), Magee offers clear, empirically supported explanations of why her ingredients and recipes alleviate each symptom. The recipes—arranged by symptom, not by food category—are refreshingly diverse, including salads, entrees, vegetarian options and desserts for most symptoms. And despite the book’s health consciousness, the recipes do not neglect flavor. Cinnamon Rolls with Soy Flour reduce hot flashes, and Smoked Salmon Crostini with Caviar increase libido, Magee claims. Although Magee’s health advice for menopausal women is fairly standard, this volume succeeds in integrating scientific proof and practical symptom relief with a medley of simple recipes for an overall sympathetic guide for the HRT-free menopausal woman.

If you don't have a lot of time, read the introduction and go straight to chapter 7. This chapter will blow your's the "aha" chapter and it puts everything together and shows you how the 10 synergy superfoods can transform your diet. The rest of the book is filled with fun and easy to make recipes and each recipe includes "food synergy notes" which list for you the various food synergy partnerships represented in that recipe (and there are usually at least 3 in each).

My next book is coming out in Spring 2010, TELL ME WHAT TO EAT IF I SUFFER FROM HEART DISEASE, and it's going to help anyone who is at risk of heart disease or has heart disease. I'm really excited about this book because it includes and makes sense of the latest research advancements. I had several well known cardiologists review the book and I'm thrilled that they loved it and thought it would help their patients greatly.

On a lighter note... I often get asked what my favorite type of cooking is and hands down it's good old homestyle know...fruit crisps, lasagna, oven-fried chicken, chocolate chip cookies, etc. Nothing too fancy, just delicious! So, imagine how much fun I had working on my cookbooks "Comfort Food Makeovers" and "Fry Light, Fry Right!."

I love to "makeover" all your favorite recipes into healthful versions that taste just as great but have less calories, fat, and saturated fat and more smart fats (like omega-3s), and fiber and nutrients.

Author, registered dietitian, Elaine Magee provides an alternative method of preventing hot flashes, night sweats, lagging to nonexistent libido and other malaise associated with menopause instead of hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Studies have proven that HRT is not the best option as it may promote breast cancer.

Elaine Magee treats your whole life, body and soul with humor, guidance and tips along with recipes such as "Hot Flash Mochac-cino" for relief and prevention of hot flashes to "Cranberry Pecan Chicken Salad" that will help carry you to hours of sound sleep to "1-2-3 Chocolate Mousse" which should rekindle your passion.

No matter where you are in your journey..just beginning, the middle or perimenopausal, this unique cookbook will definately smooth and pave the road for you, your family and friends. Elaine's humor and cartoons make this book irresistable and well worth the price. Add in the recipe for "Hot Flash Mochac-cino", you'll buy extra copies for friends.

I really like the way the book is "arranged" symtoms of menopause and what might work for you. Recipes are really good too...always looking for something different to try!!

Great recipes. I especially liked the Iced Coffee. I drink that a lot in the afternoon when I get my hot flashes the most. Would recommend this to anyone.
