Yes, the Charlotte Observer did have some content issues on their 1st day. My issue today contains a lot more content including sports. While the Kindle edition will not take the place of my regular subscription it will be wonderful when I'm traveling. I'm very glad to have this option.

Some of the other reviews worried me, but I gave the Charlotte Observer a try. It appears to contain everything one would find in the print edition. So, needless to say, I was happy with the content and it appears that some of the other reviews don't reflect the current state of the Kindle edition.

Be careful if you buy this. I was very excited to convert to the electronic subscription, but the Kindle version is stripped down extensively from the print edition. The Sports section is not included in the Kindle version, nor does it seem to include any article filed with a late deadline. Given the reduction in original content in the print edition over the last few years, what you're left with is a bunch of stories from the AP wire and a smattering of local news stories. Save your money until McClatchey gets its act together.

Shortly after I subscribed while on vacation I had to go online with my laptop to the Observer to get an article about a statement a SC Seantor made. It was defintely left out of the Kindle edition. I dropped my subscription but bought one issue to read and obituary while I was out of town recently, only to find there are no obituraies in the Kindle edition.

Compared to other newspaper tablet editions, this version is not very user-friendly. I went back to getting a paper subscription.

There is a very nice picture of the front page of the Charlotte Observer, in color, used in the Kindle ad. You can even enlarge it for a better view. This is not what you get - not even close. You get articles and an occasional small photo. You do not get a complete edition. There are no classifieds, no obituaries, and no comics. There is no disclosure of this in any of the Amazon sales hype either. There should be some legal requirements, truth in advertising perhaps, that prevent this sort of misrepresentation.

I thought I would try the Observer with my new Kindle when I went on a cruise last Feb 2011. It was great to get some local news while I was away, sports included. The only problem I have is that they need to proof read the e-version before they send it. In the 2-28-11 edition there were whole paragraphs printed twice and in the middle of completely different articles. If the quality doesn't improve, I may cancel.

I am disapointed with the N&O Kindle edition. I want a FULL print edition, adds, obits, classifieds and all. I want to brouse the paper, read the comics and advice columns. I would pay the regular subscription rate to get a full edition . . . I will not be paying for this striped down version.

They have a crap rating so this is useless, but I vent none the less. I don't subscribe, to the paper, but I am blessed with their "free paper" twice a week in my yard. I have to subscribe for them to put that piece of crap in the paper box, but I don't so they throw it in the yard or driveway. I have asked the driver nicely, not so nicely, I have called circulation, sent letters to the president of paper. They tell me they are doing the best they can??? Look down the street. Nobody looks at that rag. It sits there until trash day and then some neighbors pick them up and trash them. Who do I have to sleep with to get them to stop littering in my freaking yard??

I loved the paper at first but then the sports section stopped being included and this is an issue with me for no other reason than its the biggest section of the kindle version. So I went back and read the reviews more in detail and decided to cancal my subscription because if I pay for something I should be able to get all of it.
