So here goes my first hip-hop review, at least this artist fuses rock and the hip-hop so I do not fully feel like a total fish out of water. The Chase is Manafest's fourth full-length album. Hailing from Canada, Manafest has always had a history of mixing rock and hip-hop in a very successful way. Some of his previous hits include my favorite song of his "Impossible" which was a great anthem.

This album really is no different from his previous albums; however, the sound is much more mature and aggressive. With The Chase, I believe this is Manafest's best work of mixing hip-hop and rock. Most of the songs have some powerful guitar riffs that get your head bobbing. As well as the music, Manafest does an outstanding job of weaving his clean vocals and rap around the guitars. The lyrics are like his previous albums and are very rhyme heavy; however, I have always enjoyed his clean singing. Lyrically, Manafest tackles some big concepts of realizing you need to come back to Christ in "Every Time You Run" to not turning back from Christ in "No Plan B."

As always, Manafest always brings some special guests in for some guest vocals and this album is no different. Guest include:
* Koie in "No Plan B"
* Dustin Antsey in "Better Cause Of You" and "Break Free"
* Trevor McNevan in "Fire In The Kitchen," "Every Time You Run," and "Renegade"

The Best song on the album is "No Plan B" because it is probably the hardest song on the album and Koie of Cross Faith adds a unique screaming element that really adds some depth to the track. The other great song on the album is "Every Time Your Run" with Trevor of Thousand Foot Krutch.

Great CD!
I admit, the only other Manafest CD I have is "Glory" and I was totally expecting that sound when I got this one - and I was disappointed at the difference. As "Glory" (to me) is primarily rap with hip-hop and rock mix - where as "The Chase" is primarily rock with a rap and hip-hop mix. HOWEVER, the second time I listened to this CD - I liked it, and the third - I loved it. It's my favorite. The songs are lyrically great - and the sounds really are Manafest.

I was not necessarily a big fan of Manafest, but this album is not like the previous albums. There are remnants of some earlier songs, but overall the album is a new sound for Manafest. I was pleasantly surprised to the change. Avalanche was one of my favorites on this album.

Manafest isnt the most talented artist, not the best rapper, and his lyrics at times border on cheesiness. But he is made of high-octane energy and with a nice singing voice that fits right in with Trevor McNeehan and TFK, he's found his home. The Chase is a great album, and it comes right out of the gate firing, as he mixes rap and rock with no effort. The rock side shows its face more, but with TFK in your corner, thats probably a good idea.

No Plan B: An instant classic. Great pace and chorus. 5/5
Fire in the Kitchen: Its catchy, but kinda repetitive and cheesy. 3/5
Supernatural: Very pretty song, and powerful. simple message about being grateful. 5/5
Everytime You Run: Nothing special musically, just a very pretty song and story. 4/5
Bring The Ruckus: Catchy catchy catchy. A bit of a harder rock sound. Btw, the music vid is hilarious. 4/5
Avalanche: This is kind of the lead single along with "Plan B" its about sinning and features yet another catchy chorus. 4.5/5
Married in Vegas: Oh boy. This song was really cheesy, and a little dumb. I don't mean to hate, but I skip this one every time. 1/5
Renegade: This song is about just the struggle of doing the right thing sometimes. TFK and Manafest kill it. 4.5/5
The Chase: A typical song, kinda filler, really. Good chorus, with a lot of energy. 4/5
Better Cause Of You: This song was a little generic and Dustin Anstey was a forgettable guest 2.5/5
Breaking Down The Walls: Decent ending, with a good chorus fighting off some lame stanzas. 3/5

First off let me say manifest is one of the best rappers out there. This album has it all rap rock and great deep meaning for a few songs. This album also features the lead singer of thousand foot krutch three times. Sure the rap isn't as high as I would like but I love this album as a whole.

Don't like rock but this got me into it Plus he can rap.......Well!
Seriously sick of artists who think talking faster than normal means they're rapping

This album will satisfy your need to have a little rock mixed with a little rap. Manafest blends the two music styles very well.
