Book Description

September 25, 2012

The hosts of ABC's hit daytime TV show The Chew bring you their easy, delicious meals, entertaining tips, and money-saving tricks, in this must-have companion cookbook.

Every day millions of people tune in and pull up a home-side seat at The Chew's kitchen counter to celebrate life through food. The show's five beloved hosts dish on everything to do with cooking and entertaining. This lively companion book not only captures The Chew's trademark wit, fun, practical advice, and recipes--but highlights the easy ideas that have brought so much to America's family table. The Chew's Iron Chefs, Mario Batali and Michael Symon, show you how to be the master of your own grill; Style Master Clinton Kelly shows you the perfect--and affordable--Thanksgiving table (and what never to bring to a party!). Of course, there are mouth-watering creations from dessert diva Carla Hall, as well as Daphne Oz's delicious life-enhancing shakes. Drool over Mario Batali's Chestnut Crepes, Carla Hall's Chocoholic Whoopie Pies, Daphne Oz's Superfoods Smoothie, Michael Symon's Deep-Dish Pizza Casserole, and Clinton Kelly's Spicy Grapefruit Margarita, aka "The Clinton Caliente."

From entertaining to family dinner to holiday planning, The Chew was created to make life a little bit easier and a lot more fun. And so was this book.

But wait there's more . . .
A behind-the-scenes look at the hit show and what makes it tick
The Chew Chili Champion Face-Off
The dishes that made the hosts fall in love with food
The reason you should put marbles in the medicine cabinet
Dozens of photos featuring your favorite moments from the show

5.0 out of 5 stars Fans of the show will love this! September 26, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Note: This review is for the paperback BOOK edition. The Kindle edition has fewer recipes!

I am a big fan of "The Chew". It is a program that I record and look forward to in the evenings when I watch television. This book is divided by the seasons and features recipes from each of the hosts. Every recipe has an indicator bar that denotes cooking time, skill level, prep time and cost. Icons indicate whether a recipe is "Light & Healthy", "Simple Italian", "Viewer's Choice", "Two-Fer (Two Meals in One)", "5-in-5" (5 ingredients in 5 minutes), "Kid Friendly" or "Cocktail". Most (but not all) feature a photo. The book also has interviews with the hosts, photos of celebrity guests on the show and sections about the holidays, entertaining, etc.

4.0 out of 5 stars From The Chew Crew September 26, 2012
Format:Paperback
The Chew: Food. Life. Fun. Is an upbeat cookbook because it doesn't take cooking so seriously--enjoy and don't be afraid to cook!

Categories in the book include light and healthy, simple Italian, viewer's choice (from the show), two meals in one, 5 ingredients in 5 minutes, kid friendly and cocktails.

Each recipe also includes how difficult it is to make--but all are either easy or moderate. They also include the price range to prepare.

The authors share recipes and information about themselves, including what made them fall in love with food in the first place.

The style of the book is casual and user-friendly. You will get to know the authors a bit more by reading the book. There are also photos from the show and facts about it...

Which leads to...this is a basic cookbook that is fine for fans of The Chew, but certainly not all that comprehensive.
Instead, it is a fun look at the people from the show and some of their favorite recipes.

I have tried a few recipes:

Roasted Chicken with Sweet Potatoes and Sage: lovely. A classic with a nice twist--sage and sweet potatoes...love it.

Banana Pudding: crazy delicious--insanely soft and sweet; gooey and chewy

Potato Leek Soup: a little thin; not exciting

Superfoods Smoothie: go-to health boost

If you are a fan you will love this book. If you aren't, there are lots of tantalizing recipes to try. I have ear-marked: Cast-Iron Pork Pie, Chile Chicken Flautas and Bacon, Egg and Cheese Casserole. That said, this cookbook is definitely limited in scope--it has about 100 recipes. Unless you are familiar with the show and the types of dishes the chefs make, I would suggest you flip through the book before buying to decide if there are enough recipes that you would want to make.
