Editorial Reviews

Review

"My tween-age daughter fell in love with this spiral-bound, black-and-white diary on sight....I like that the pages are made from cardstock and the cover is clear plastic with an elastic fastener — the book is meant to last, since it’s preserving important vacation memories." --Practical Travel Gear

My daughter is delighted with this journal. It prompts a child to write about things they may not have thought about. It contains a lot of the same information that adult travel journals contain (e.g. record of expenses), but in a kid-friendly format with illustrations. I think it will be a great thing for keeping my daughter busy on the plane ride.

Perfect combination of prompted writing and free space. If your child loves to draw or has pictures to paste in it, you can nearly make a scrapbook out of it and it will be a treasured keepsake later of a big trip. My child has little interest in drawing, but readily filled in the blanks and wrote about what he saw. Good find! Recommend for ages 6-12 or 13.

My daughter has enjoyed working on this before the trip--coloring it, making maps and filling out the lists. I think the daily prompts are going to help to create a great keepsake to look back on from our trip to China. However, this journal seemed a bit too hard for her 5-year-old brother to use, so I bought a different one for him. This would be best for kids 8 and up.

I am a former 1st grade teacher and now a mom. I bought this for my 9 year old and was age appropriate. I like the questions it asked and the spaces it left for receipts and pictures. It is a great way to have your child engaged in learning about where the are visiting/vacationing while also making memories.

NOTE: This is for international travel, not for US travel. It is a great journal that kids of many ages will enjoy and be able to use. However, it has so many sections that are for ONLY international travel (money exchange, foreign languages/words, maps with the earth and continents on it, not states, foreign flags, etc.), that it was inappropriate for the US road trip I purchased it for. Great for a kid who is traveling internationally. The instructions on the outside of it explaining various ways to use the journal are excellent. Wish they had one for US travel and one for International travel.

Although this journal is black and white throughout, this allowed us to decorate the cover as colorfully as we wished! This really was the best travel journal for our purposes. Since my kids don't do a whole lot of venturing to different places, this journal provides 45 pages for a one trip experience; in contrast to other travel journals, like the eeBoo and Mudpuppy variations, that provide 5 pages of information entry and 50 pages of daily logs. We like to write, but wanted room for photos, tickets, menus, foreign currency, etc. that this book provides. The left sides of this spiral-bound are thinly-framed and left blank for these purposes. The right sides contain room for all the written details with phrases offered in small font to ignite a kid's memory and inspiration on what to write. They are free to write elaborately or simply make lists of the sights, sounds and smells of their journey. But, there's flexibility...our trip consisted of air travel to Statue of Liberty, upstate NY and Niagara Falls. We have the option of logging these four places into the journal because there are pages labeled "How I Got There" (airplane ride, taxis), "Statues and Monuments" (Statue of Liberty and Niagara Falls), "Our Destination" (NY) and "Money" (Canadian currency) and more. There's a back pocket for gathering other paper keepsakes, a plastic front cover and a thick elastic band to help keep the book closed and secure. The paper IS heavy stock quality and size is a slightly larger than a school composition book. I see a journal like this being more interesting as a looking-back memento than just a written journal for me and my 10 year old daughter.

I bought two of these for my girls, aged 7 and 9, for a once-in-a-childhood trip to the Mediterranean. The pages are heavy cardstock and spiral bound, so they lay flat without holding them down. The girls like the doodle-type drawings to color and the little phrases that give them ideas for what to journal. I especially liked the first few pages that we did together at home, including an itinerary and other plans, which sparked discussion about our expectations.

I would recommend this journal for longer trips to far-away places and for children who enjoy reading and writing creatively.

After looking at many journals on line I selected this one. I bought it for my grandchildren (six and ten) for their trip to DC. It has plenty of space for keeping programs and tickets as well as guidance to what to write down during their experiences.
