Book Description

Cujo meets The Manchurian Candidate in this propulsive thriller set in Miami, in which a special ops soldier must uncover a deadly threat to nation security: a nefarious plot using man’s best friend as a deadly weapon.

In the blistering heat of Miami, fatal dog attacks are running at record levels. Swimmers, walkers, and homeowners have been shockingly savaged to death. The public is starting to panic. It seems the summer sun or some unknown virus is turning man’s best friend into his worst enemy.

Lieutenant “Ghost” Walton shrugs it off as a freak coincidence.

But when the body count rises, and the perimeter of blood and carnage widens across Miami-Dade county, the seasoned special ops detective with a nose for trouble senses there is something darker behind the pattern of violence, and he’s going to find out what it is. While his previous missions have prepared him for all kinds of danger, Ghost doesn’t anticipate falling hard for a beautiful and feisty out-of-towner with a murky past. Nor does he expect to stumble onto a plot that threatens national security . . . and now he must stop it before it’s too late.

Full of gut-wrenching suspense, and twisting surprises, this gruesome thriller is perfect for fans of Randy Wayne White, Kathy Reich, James Grippando, and Joe Hill.

3.0 out of 5 stars My Review August 24, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I couldn't finish this one.
While the writing style and characters are great, the premise and science irked me. Remote activated, genetically engineered killer dogs...that don't have discernible transmitters and are all breeds, ages...Umm, no.
I wanted to enjoy and finish due to some of the side stories, but I just couldn't do it.

**I received a copy of this book for a honest review of this book.**

5 Awesome stars, I actually like reading thriller's with a hint of romance, and this book had it all.

The thriller set in Miami, where fatal dog attacks are running at record levels. People are being savaged to death, man's best friend has turned into his worst enemy.

Lieutenant "Ghost" Walton is the first man on the scene, and he heads up the task force who are trying to stay one step ahead of whatever is causing beloved pets to turn into "savage beasts".

I loved how Sam Master's created his main character to be the odd but honourable hero, he reminded me of Horatio Caine, I loved CSI Miami because of David Caruso's portrayal of Horatio, the resemblance was not in looks but, in that both Horatio and 'Ghost' have that "I don't give a dam about what you are telling me to do - I am going to do what I think is right" attitude.

Some of the best scenes in the book are when he is going against orders and doing what he thinks is the honourable way forward.

Before Ghost was called to the first attack victim, he responded to a robbery at a bank, where he meets the beautiful and feisty out-of-towner with a murky past, Zoe can take care of herself, she took down the would-be bank robber, and when she meets 'Ghost' although his abrupt attitude is a bit grating, she can't help noticing the mutual attraction they have towards each other.

This book has enough of intensity in the pages to keep both male and female readers happy.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS BOOK SWALLOWS YOU UP. August 19, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I received a copy of this book for a honest review of this book. There were times I slept with the lights on reading this book. Definately an intense thriller. There was just enough military "stuff" that it kept it interesting without turning a woman off from it. This book was so interesting with all the dog attacks. With all the attacks and no one really thinks anything about it, it gets you raging saying darn it listen to them. There was just enough romance that it didn't throw off the integrity of the book. It is set in Miami Dade county, Florida and you feel like you are really there. The writing of this author was very fluid and didn't fall short of being one of the best thrillers of the year. I apologize for no spoilers but I don't believe in them. This is a book you want to read because it could happen. The book swallows you up and you forget everything around you. I would recommend this book for anyone.

2.0 out of 5 stars I really tried to like this book October 14, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I really tried to like this book. The fundamental premise is that of weaponized dogs, who are magically "activated" to attack anything and everything in sight. It's really quite brutal. I struggled through about 1/3 of the book until I came upon the weaponized Yorkshire Terrier who kills his owner in his sleep. Sam Masters spared us the details of that encounter and I spared myself the details of the rest of the book. This book reeks of brutality and absurdity.

3.0 out of 5 stars Barking up wrong tree..,. October 1, 2014
This plot is a stretch although it will probably keep you reading. BUT IF YOU ARE A DOG LOVER this is a novel you'll want to skip. It is way too graphic and will turn off canine lovers.
