I got this for my 9 year old who has started to show some pre-puberty "symptoms" and I thought this would be something we could read together and use it to reference things. I read the first few pages myself and was caught off guard since it started talking about " noticing boys and getting a funny feeling inside my body"

I know my 9 year old doesn't notice boys like that yet and is oblivious to any "feelings" about it. I felt like reading this now would cause her to think about things that she may not understand.

So I've put it on the shelf for now, because I know one day it will come in handy since it had great reviews.

This is not a puberty book as much as a book that leads into sex-ed discussions. The chapters my daughter thumbed through were about skin care and eating right, but I decided to read it first before she got into it. Early in the book prostitution is mentioned (something my pre-pubescent child was not old enough to learn about), and then birth control pills and conception are explained. This is not the strictly about puberty book I was hoping for and which the cover and reviews say it is. Also, Song of Solomon is a Book about married sexual experiences, and not a Book of the Bible I expected to be quoted in a book for tweens! This book is definitely not for pre-pubescent girls, but for teens.

Recently read this with my dd age 11 who knew little about puberty at all. It is written just on their level. My dd really enjoyed the quizzes and recipes. I could tell she felt like a big girl after reading it. Nice and gentle approach to all things girls want to know about their changing body.

We started out with the Care and Keeping of You 1 from American Heritage girls. My daughter read it avidly and in the doing came up with a lot of questions for me.

This book has a lot more information(....the pituitary, a pea sized gland in your brain......hormones.....estrogen and progesterone.....) and perhaps more technical in its approach. It also hammers hard on the ideas of positive body image. And of course there is Scripture involved as well as little projects and crafty ideas suggested rather regularly.
