Book Description

Please note that this is a novella equivalent to 70 pages of a hardback novel.

From the acclaimed author of Reunion comes the hilarious tale of a girl who whacks a witch, gets cursed, and becomes a pumpkin at midnight. Sound strange? She thinks so.

Cindy had a fairy tale life – well, not literally – but she was pretty and popular. Then one fateful autumn day, while picking apples, she encountered a real-life witch. After accidentally clocking the witch on the head with her basket of apples, the angry witch put a spell on her. As Cindy would soon find out, she was destined to live out her nights turning into a pumpkin at midnight. Talk about a crimp in your social life!

There is only one antidote for Cindy’s terrible curse - if only she knew what it was. Hilarity ensues as Cindy attempts to lead a normal life as a part-time pumpkin.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Cinderella Curse May 19, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
Cindy is a pretty ordinary girl- ordinary looks, ordinary job, ordinary friends. But one day, she crosses path with a witch, gets cursed, and turns into a pumpkin each night at midnight. This is a real damper for Cindy, as she is trying to give her love life a shot with a handsome police officer. Luckily, he works the overnight shift, so he has yet to see Cindy turn orange in bed. But when his schedule changes, Cindy knows she either needs to tell him the truth and hope he can handle it, or say good-bye to the man she is starting to fall in love with. With supportive parents and a best friend who helps get her through her pumpkin nights, Cindy tries with all her might to reverse the curse, even seeking out local witch covens for help. But only a fairy tale ending will be the answer for this puzzle.
The Cinderella Curse by JL Penn is a hilarious short story, and readers will enjoy all the trip-ups Cindy encounters as a pumpkin. Though the ending may be a bit predictable, it is still a fun story to dive into from one of my favorite authors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing February 27, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Oh, how cute this story is! It is a fun, funny, and refreshing read with a delightful twist on the Cinderella fairytale. I loved it! Even as adults, we need fairytales and fantasies once in awhile, and this book does it for ya! JL Penn mixed modern day reality with classic fairytale fantasy and created one enjoyable story that ends happily ever-after. Great job!

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll like Cindy! March 18, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I saw this author on the Kindle Boards, and decided to give this story a try. I must tell you that I laughed aloud while reading it, and I don't usually do that.
Cindy has a problem (a witch cursed her, and every night she turns into a pumpkin), but she has a great attitude, a great best friend, and understanding parents. I loved Cindy, I know I could be friends with her! Becoming a pumpkin every night tends to subvert ones social life, but she copes with that also, and, well, I'm not going to reveal the ending. If you need a little escape, and you need to laugh, pick up this well written, witty story.

More About the Author

Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, J.L. Penn has always been an avid reader and writer. When she was a child, her parents told her she was the next Erma Bombeck based on her humorous and satirical writings. In undergraduate and graduate school, her professors encouraged her to author a book or article. She was even a journalism major in college for about a minute, until she realized that basic fact reporting was not for her.

J.L. (Jenn) always had a desire to write a book but it was not until a lightning bolt moment of inspiration that she seriously sat down to write. The words seemed to flow easily, with the first draft and final draft being nearly the same. After only two months of writing in the evenings after her daughter went to bed, Reunion was complete. Now her readers are eagerly awaiting a sequel.

J.L. Penn lives in the suburbs of Maryland with her husband and daughter. She enjoys cooking, traveling, scrapbooking, reading, romantic comedies, and music.
