This review doesn't just pertain to this book but, the whole Wingman Series. Those of us who like Sci-Fi or Fantasy will love this series. I am currently on book 14 and I can hardly put one of these books down. Action, adventure, a little sex, booze, guns etc. what's not to like? One of the all time best series I have ever read!

The novel Wingman:The circle War by Mack Maloney in my opinion is a vey sosphisticated book. Ithink that the novel has a good plot and the author uses literary elements. The basic plot had an ace fighter pilot Hawk Hunter, who was fighting to keep the spirit of his country alive. After hearing a report of Russian SAMs deep in the Bad Lands,Hunter would have to stop the Russians plan to win the war. Hunter goes on solo missions to find and destroy the Russian SAMs. Once hes in to deep to call for backup, Hawk finds himself waging a one man war.Teh setting of this book is the ruins of America and the Bad Lands from North Dakota to Texas. The main character is Hawk Hunter who is a fighter pilot fighting whats left of the war. Some of the key literary elements of the novel are imagery and suspense. There are many examples of these two elements. Two of them are found on pages 145 and 107. These elements helped make the book interesting and helped make the basic ides clear. I would basically keep the novel the way it is. The only change I would make is to put more personification into the book. this in my favor would give the book more suspense and imagery.

Hawk is on another mission in this one - this one is imperative for him to win in order for the old US to return to a semblance of its former self. Lights in the sky, Badlands full of radiation and Hawk is trying to locate 5 boxes spread from Pearl Harbor to NYC. What does he need these for?

Plus, Dominique, his love is among the missing! And, then she appears in a photo with Viktor, the bad guy. At least she is alive but.....

Aircraft from the P - 38 to the Stealth and everything in between are utilized in this story. And, all different types of armament are also described. Aircraft, armament, and ammunition are in abundance throughout this series.

An interesting read for me in that my first job was as a mechanical inspector at GE. Back then, we were making the Vulcan and 7.62 Mini Guns in support of NAM. Then, my 20 years in the USN aviation field instilled a love of aircraft in me.

Highly recommended.

If I could give less than one star I would. As a retired US Air Force Aircraft Maintenance Technician, then Supervisor, the Superintendent, I was totally insulted when the author referred to aircraft mechanics as "monkeys". Not only in the military but also in civilian life, the mechanics are the people who keep aviation safe. The author took so many liberties in making the lead person a "hero" he allowed many. many impossible tasks to be done by that person. If I ever had a pilot in the military refer to any of my mechanics as a "monkey" that pilot would NEVER fly due to maintenance difficulties discovered during the pre flight launch period.

When I first picked up a wing man book I thought it was going to be one of those dorky airplane novels, boy was I suprised. When I picked it up I could not put it down, I read every chance I got, even if it was for a few seconds, thats how this book was! I feel that Hawk Hunter is one of the people I look up to. Mack Maloney has created the best series I have ever read.
