"The Circuitry of the Self: Astrology and the Developmental Model" offers a new theory of how astrology works and how it can be scientifically validated. Astrology may be more than a kind of poetry of the imagination, it may be deeply embedded in our biological processes. Since Darwin, biologists have viewed life in terms of a developmental model. Life moves forward in stages - we are born in a form very different from what we become at adulthood. While Freud and Erikson applied the developmental model to their psychological theories few astrologers have approached astrology from that perspective. Many have adopted Jung's ideas on the archetypes and synchronicity to explain how astrology works. The astrological model described in this book offers an evolutionary alternative - planetary cycles establish imprints as we develop, and these imprints structure our personality and, consequently, our destiny.

This book has not yet received the attention it deserves. The author presents a model of personality development that correlates psychological research with planetary cycles. The result is a fascinating account of human development as seen in the unfolding of the natal chart. The ideas are fresh, novel, and compelling. No matter what your level of astrological expertise, Scofield's text will enhance your understanding of the birth chart. This is a book every astrologer should read, and I recommend it highly.
I've recently become insterested in Astrology after reading Richard Tarnas's opus "Cosmos and Psyche". This semester I was enrolled in a Developmental Psychology course and I thought, there must be a way this material can be modeled with Astrology. Half way thru writing my paper for the class based on that idea, I came across this book. Scofield has already laid the groundwork here for this fascinating area of study. I'd recommend this book to any student of Astrology or Psychology with an open mind.
