As a history buff, I loved this book'. It is not just the same old history rewritten over again. It brings these men to life by detailing their lives. It does far more than just show pictures of artifacts, it tells the story of the men who owned the items shown in the book. As well as bringing to light several names from the past that have passed into obscurity. And discusses the battles of the Civil war that are not well known but had a big impact on the war.

This book is a great source of information about the Civil war in the west. This is not just another picture book. The author gives a great history of the men behind the artifacts, the battles that they fought in, and what they did before and after the war. This is not just another dry history book.

I have used this book as a reference in making reproduction uniforms for reenactment events. In addition it lends 'life' the the items shown by giving a history of the person it belonged to. I have also noticed this book used as a reference tool by antique stores selling Civil War period items! The pictures are great, it's a great addition to a Civil War Reference material.
