Review

RT Book Reviews - 4 Stars: "Second in the Sin Hunters series, The Claimed will not disappoint fans new or old. The Light Hunters and Shadow Hunters are mortal enemies and this paranormal Romeo and Juliet romance with an edge will keep readers intrigued. Just like her characters, Pineiro's books are smart, sensual and irresistible."

Alternative Worlds: "The second Sin Hunters romantic urban fantasy is a terrific tale of forbidden love between beloved enemies. The cast is fully developed whether they are Victoria's BFFs or clan members, but especially the protagonists. Fast-paced, Caridad Pineiro provides a wonderful west side of the Hudson paranormal romance."

From the Author

I've been reading romances for as long as I can remember, going back to when I was twelve and read and re-read WUTHERING HEIGHTS all summer long.  At one point the the librarian told me I could not take the book out again since other people needed a chance to read it!

Denied my broody Heathcliff and doomed Catherine, I turned my attentions to what some might say were an odd mix:  Shakespeare and Ian Fleming.

It's safe to say that those choices as a young reader were later reflected in what I wrote, especially in THE CLAIMED, the second book in the Sin Hunters series.

Action.  Adventure. Angst.  I've incorporated all those elements that I love into this tale of a determined and broody alpha hero, Christopher Sombrosa, and a woman who is the absolute wrong choice for him, Victoria Johnson.

So why is Victoria not the woman for Christopher?  Think Romeo and Juliet, Capulet and Montague.

Victoria is destined to be the leader of her Light Hunter clan while Christopher is not only one of the Dark Ones, he is likewise supposed to assume command of his Shadow Hunter people.

Add to the mix some rather nefarious villains in the form of Christopher's father and ex-fiancée and the betrayal of someone dear to Victoria, and I think you'll find THE CLAIMED will keep you turning pages until the very end.

I am very glad to say, however, that despite the hopeless Catherine, Juliet, and assorted Bond girls who could never win James's heart, there is a path to a new and exciting place for Christopher and Victoria.

I hope you will enjoy their fight for a better tomorrow for not only themselves, but their race of Hunters.

You know that book you start reading and when you realize it's so romancy, you should dislike it, but you kind of got addicted anyway and read through the night knowing full well how it's going to end? Well, The Claimed is that book.

Caridad Pineiro's Claimed is a wonderful new addition to the paranormal romance genre with its superb writing style and predictable but addicting plotline. It's refreshing because it has vampires Hunters, violence and romance, but the two main characters don't constantly fall all over or abandon everything else for each other. Both Victoria and Christopher are strong characters with important leadership roles and although they are very much attracted to each other, they try not to let it affect their responsibilities and once they decide they will be together, they still keep their friends and clans their priority. The romance builds slowly as the two would-be enemies learn to trust each other and fall further in love.

The obstacles they must overcome to be a couple are similar to what has been done before but the way the author writes it, it seems to be something completely original. Victoria's clan, the Light Hunters, and Christopher's clan, The Shadow Hunters, have been mortal enemies for centuries and blame each other for much loss and pain they have endured. So it's of course inconceivable that each finds the other harmless and attractive and GASP - good. But then they realize what their clans have believed for centuries are lies and must convince their followers of the same.

THE CLAIMED by Caridad Pineiro is an exciting paranormal romance. Book 2 in the "Sin Hunters" series, but can be read as a stand alone. See, "The Lost". I enjoy this author's works, she knows how to draw in the reader with her powerful love story along with the mystery and suspense. In "The Claimed" she has pulled to enemies into a love affair for the ages with Victoria Johnson,a Light Hunter and Christopher Sombrosa, a Shadow Hunter. The two clans are mortal enemies, but Victoria draws Christopher to her with her erotic life force. Christopher who is tired of his father's violence and his affliction, defies him and led some of his clan away. With betrayal, sensual tension, passion, uniting two warring tribes, romance and love. You can not go wrong by picking up Ms. Pineiro's "The Claimed". A must read paranormal romance full of excitement, brimming with sensual tension,a bit of violence and murderous clan members who would stop at nothing to from having peace between the Light Hunters and the Shadow Hunters. Received for an honest review from the author. Details can be found at Forever, an imprint of Grand Central Publishing, the author's website and My Book Addiction and More.

Although, this is the second book in the series, this is the first book I have read by Caridad Pineiro, I missed the first book in the series. That being said, I feel like this book can be read on its own but it would be helpful to have read the first book in the series as there are events that are mentioned that refer to the first book. There are a lot of new terms are thrown out at you in the beginning with the Light Hunters and the Shadow Hunters and it can be somewhat disorienting but you catch your balance pretty quickly and everything is explained in its time.

This is a fast paced novel that will not leave you bored, there is plenty going on to hold your attention. This is a tale of two natural enemies inexplicably drawn together at the worst possible time. Victoria is of the Light, she has immense power and a responsibility to her people to mate with a male of Light also with great power, the fate of her clan depends on her. She takes her duties seriously and knows what is expected of her, but the romantic residing in her heart wishes she could have more, could have love. All her life she has done what is expected of her, only this time she wants something of her own, someone of her own. She has that chance but all she has to do is go against everything she has ever been taught and stand up to her parents and lead her people in a new daunting controversial direction. I really like Victoria, she is kind and loyal. She has a vision she is willing to risk all on but mostly she cares about her people. You can't really hate on someone who gives so much to those she loves even at the sacrifices of her own happiness sometimes. She befriends humans and her guard she treats like family.

I had mixed feelings about this book, perhaps because I'd just finished reading a very different kind of romance, one with deep characterisation and a powerful underlying theme. In comparison, this lacked depth and sensitivity. However, looked at by itself and in terms of its genre, it was an entertaining enough read with some good things to recommend it.

The fantasy element was different, something I always enjoy. The love story was between two kids from different sides of the track, one a Shadow Hunter (no, not the Cassandra Clare variety) and the other a Light Hunter. These paranormals live amongst humans and feed off energy. When humans came to the Americas they brought a pox with them which infected the Hunters and split them into two groups. Those with some immunity became the Light Hunters, though most of them lost the ability to collect energy for themselves and became dependant on the strongest members of their clans to share their energy with them. Those who carried the pox became the Shadow Hunters. They discovered that feeding from humans and Light Hunters kept the pox at bay, so that's who they hunted. The result was a long standing war between the two kinds of Hunters.

Victoria is the equivalent to a princess to the Light Hunters and Christopher,a prince of the Shadow Hunters. Christopher has discovered that returning to the old ways of collecting energy from nature keeps the pox at bay without them having to kill humans and Light Hunters. He and his few followers have left his cruel pox-ridden father's compound and set up their own. He and Victoria meet without knowing who each other are and their connection is sensual, irresistible and, they soon discover, forbidden.
